Inheritance
"Kiss him."
Originally, he had planned to refine a pagoda-shaped magical tool for Yin Yan’s birthday in the last half of the year, but that plan would no longer work. Although he wasn’t fully prepared, he had to brace himself and try something.
After immersing himself in work all night, he had exhausted all his spiritual energy. The materials he had used were finally turned into a small, dark brown, three-leveled pagoda tower.
It might be too plain…
Dissatisfied with the end result, Yu Zhen frowned.
The material used was wood, so the resulting tower was also made of wood.
Compared to the jade pagoda tower, and the pagoda tower inlaid with precious gems, the wooden one looked old and dull. It was not good looking at all.
“Meow ~”
Xu Wu jumped out, reminding him that it was quite late. It was time to return to the villa for breakfast.
Yu Zhen touched the wooden pagoda tower for just another moment before making it shrink to stow it away. Xu Wu then returned him to the villa.
After eating a pill to replenish his spirit, Yu Zhen took a bath and changed his clothes. Then he left his room, acting as if he had just woken up.
“What did you do in the dimensional pot yesterday? Why didn’t you rest properly?”
Yin Yan leaned against the wall outside Yu Zhen’s room and calmly asked these questions.
“Xu Wu.”
“I’ll tell you! D-don’t make things hard for Xu Wu.”
Yu Zhen didn’t hide the truth any longer. Thinking about the wooden pagoda tower, he looked at Yin Yan with slumped shoulders and his expression was distorted for a moment. He firmly grasped Yin Yan’s arm, pulled him into the room, and shut the door.
Bang.
Because of the action, Yin Yan was pressed against the door in a kabedon.
“Hmm?” Yan Yan looked down at him meaningfully.
Yu Zhen’s mind went blank for a moment, then he quickly removed his hand. His face was red and he didn’t dare to lift his head up. He immersed himself with searching inside the pagoda and before long, he pulled out the wooden pagoda tower. He handed it over with hesitation and stuttered, “H-happy birthday.”
I was going to make tonight’s meal and give it to him after that.
In the end…
Yu Zhen cursed himself for his meekness and lack of planning.
There was a silence between them. Yin Yan stood taller and quietly fixed his eyes on the tower.
“I made this last night…”
Met with Yin Yan’s continued silence, Yu Zhen grew more anxious. His palms became sweaty and his head dipped lower. “Time was too tight and the level of my tool refinement skill is low, s-so I could only make this. I hope you won’t dislike it too much… I’ll definitely make a better one for you next year.”
Yin Yan remained speechless.
Yu Zhen licked his lips and secretly peeped at Yin Yan. With hidden motives in his mind, he added, “Look, now you have a pagoda tower, too. You could hang it on the red thread, just like mine… You don’t have a dimensional magical tool, s-so this is a defensive magical tool… This doesn’t seem too useful for you either… s-sorry…”
He became quieter with each word, his dejection was clear in his stance.
Badump, badump, badump…Thump, thump, thump, thump, thump.
Hm?
Yu Zhen looked at his own chest in confusion.
Then with a swish, his hand became empty. The door of his room was swiftly opened and then shut, a puff of air blew into his face from the motion.
The thumping heartbeat disappeared.
Yu Zhen lifted his head, looking at the door dumbly. Suddenly, he realized something. With disbelief, his eyes widened and he lifted a hand to his chest… That heartbeat just now…
Click. The door was opened again. Yin Yan appeared outside the room. He threw a small embroidered bag at Yu Zhen and shut the door again.
Yu Zhen: “…”
“Master, just then, the immortal’s heartbeat sped up.” San’er floated out and squatted on his shoulder. As if he was an expert on the topic of emotion, he confidently added, “The immortal got shy.”
Yu Zhen paused, turned to look at San’er, and asked, “Didn’t you go to the prison to torment Qiu Xiehua?”
“He was shocked into unconsciousness and was sent to the hospital. I’ll let him recover. It would be bad if I played him to death. He has to die of old age. I don’t want to carry the sin of murder because of him. That would waste Master’s merits.” San’er had a cute bun face as he spoke. Then he shifted the topic back. “Master, just now, the immortal’s heartbeat really did go up. Trust me.”
As they exchanged looks, Yu Zhen’s face grew redder, bit by bit.
“Master, your heart is also beating faster.”
“B-be quiet,” Yu Zhen sputtered in embarrassed anger. He stuffed San’er’s mouth with merits and tossed him back inside the jade. He gazed at the door and then quickly looked away. Abruptly, he turned around and ran into the bathroom, splashing his face with cold water.
After breakfast, Yin Yan went to the construction site. His expression was peaceful, leaving Yu Zhen unable to notice anything. Doubt crept into his heart again.
Did I sense things wrongly? Was that extremely fast heartbeat mine? Did San’er get it wrong too?
Secret love makes me unconfident.
Yu Zhen returned to the apartment. After thinking for a long time, he called Xin Xiaoxiao back to him.
Qiu Ruijie had gone abroad, to a place too far for her to reach. Without a way of protecting her son, she turned her attention to retaliating against Qiu Junwen. Like San’er, she had been taking special care of Qiu Junwen, who had been locked up in prison. In a short time, she had pushed Qiu Junwen towards insanity.
“Master.”
As soon as she appeared, Xin Xiaoxiao knelt down and retracted the evil energy about her. Her attitude was both cautious and respectful.
No longer at a loss with their habit of kneeling, Yu Zhen simply sat down on the ground. Slightly embarrassed, he began, “Xiaoxiao, you’re more experienced with… um… How can you tell if the person you’re in love with loves you back? Are there any good methods?”
Xin Xiaoxiao was stunned.
Seeing her reaction, Yu Zhen thought of her bad ending with Qiu Junwen. Quietly cursing his rotten mind for seeking out any random person, he hurriedly waved his hands and said, “Nevermind, nevermind. I just asked some random nonsense. Go do your thing. Don’t mind the question – ”
“Kiss him.”
“…… Huh?”
“Before Qiu Junwen, I had a first love. He was very shy. He would hold back everything, but I really liked him. So… I kissed him.” Xin Xiaoxiao’s expression softened, showing the hint of a cherished memory. She smiled and continued, “His face turned red and he said to me that he would take responsibility. Afterwards, I was able to confirm it. He really liked me and had already wanted to be with me for a very long time.”
“Later, he…”
“Died in a car accident.”
Yu Zhen looked at her apologetically. “Sorry, I made you think of something sad.”
“No.” Xin Xiaoxiao shook her head and smiled. “He left only warm memories and happiness. I’m very happy to talk about him with Master.”
It might have been the story by Xin Xiaoxiao moving him, or perhaps the weather was too good, or the brocade bag gifted by Yin Yan was too special, but Yu Zhen’s mind was taken over by excitement. He grabbed his car keys and rushed to the construction site.
Unfortunately, when he arrived, Yin Yan wasn’t around. Yin Yan had gone to the company for a meeting.
Fired up, he then rushed to the company.
Yu Zhen had already been to the company for a few meetings, so, although he hadn’t stayed long each time and most of his time was spent in the meeting rooms, employees throughout the company already recognized him and knew he was the little boss’ lawful husband and that they were only waiting on a wedding to be completed.
When the receptionist and security guards saw Yu Zhen enter, they immediately stepped forward to give their greetings. They considerately told him that Yin Yan had arrived at the office not long ago.
Yu Zhen smiled and thanked them. Then he walked with quick steps to the special elevator which took him straight to the fifteenth floor.
In the end, Yu Zhen was once again unable to catch Yin Yan. He had been called to Yin Hexiang’s office for a discussion.
The hot blood which had rushed to his head slowly cooled down. It wouldn’t be good to disturb the discussion so he waited in Yin Yan’s office on the fifteenth floor.
Yin Yan’s office table was very tidy. There were a few documents, a computer, and a desk phone. Aside from these few items, there wasn’t anything unnecessary like decorations. Yu Zhen reached out and picked at the documents. As he thought about whether he should grow a potted plant to decorate the room, the office door was carefully pushed open.
It was pushed open extremely gently. If Yu Zhen didn’t have good hearing, he wouldn’t have heard the quiet movement of the door.
An ordinary-looking young man stuck his head in and entered. He skulked around the office like a thief before meeting Yu Zhen’s direct look.
Yu Zhen frowned. “Who are you?”
He had a basic impression of the employees on the fifteenth floor, and he had never seen this intruder before.
The young man froze. Panic flashed across his face and then he turned and ran.
Sensing something wasn’t right, Yu Zhen chased after him. When he left the office, he didn’t forget to properly shut the door. A normal person’s speed couldn’t compete with that of a cultivator. Before the young man made it out of the office corridor, he had been caught by Yu Zhen.
“Why are you running? Make it clear. What were you trying to do by sneaking into Yin Yan’s office?”
“Let me go!” the young man yelled. He acted as if he had been wrongfully accused. He pulled his jacket back and shouted, “Don’t think that you can bully innocent employees as you like just because you’re the young madam. You’re just a country bumpkin that managed to hold onto a big thigh! What’s so great about you?!”
“You…” Yu Zhen frowned and loosened his hold on the man’s shirt. Yu Zhen didn’t understand why the man suddenly got angry, but intuition told him that the young man’s anger was fake. He felt guilt inside.
“You are a mistress!”
“You’re rotten goods that stole someone else’s boyfriend!”
“Today, even if I’m dismissed, I have to speak the truth! What noble young master?! What mysterious heir from a foreign country? You’re just some feral child who grew up in the countryside! And you were an idiot before you were six!”
There was too much noise and it very quickly attracted the attention of other staff.
Yu Zhen frowned at the young man and asked, “Who told you to come here and say this?”
“What? Are you afraid that people will know your true face? Ha! Maybe you lured Yin Yan away with magic! After all, you had a Taoist grandfather! Yin Yan is quite pitiful. His grandfather used evil techniques on him, and now you, a freak, have entangled him up too! He’s very unlucky!”
As the young man spoke, he became more stirred up. His voice held conviction, causing nearby employees to start whispering.
“What’s going on?”
Yin Yan’s voice appeared from beyond the circle of onlookers. Everyone became silent and, one after another, they looked at him and then moved aside to let him pass.
The young man who had been yelling became terrified. He lowered his head and stepped back, attempting to mix in with the crowd before leaving.
“Stop him.”
Once Yin Yan gave his orders, the staff immediately gathered around and stopped the young man from escaping.
“What’s going on?” Yin Yan walked to Yu Zhen and asked again.
When Yu Zhen saw him, his frown disappeared and he explained simply, “I was waiting for you in your office. He then sneakily pushed open the door. When he saw that I was there, he turned tail and ran away. I thought it was weird so I chased him over here. Then he started yelling.”
Yin Yan held Yu Zhen’s hand, then sized up the young man. “Someone from the Han family?”
The young man stiffened and avoided his gaze.
“Call the police, check the CCTVs, find out which department he belongs to and when he entered the company.” Yin Yan gave instructions to a guard who had rushed to the scene. Yin Yan then looked at the young man and added, “Tell Han Ya, don’t do these cheap tricks anymore.”
Then he led Yu Zhen to the elevator.
The surrounding staff automatically gave way, their gossip-filled eyes were following Yu Zhen sneakily.
Uneasy, he pulled on Yin Yan’s hand and asked, “Are you not going back to the office?”
Yin Yan shook his head. “No, Dad’s group of lawyers have just come back from abroad. The inheritance has been decided. You came just in time. Go up and sign some things, otherwise, you’ll have to come again tomorrow.”
“Inheritance?” Yu Zhen was puzzled.
“Property outside the country that your grandfather left for you,” Yin Yan answered. At the same time, he secretly spoke into Yu Zhen’s mind.
[The evil cultivator’s bank account.]
Yu Zhen suddenly realized that it was Yin Yan’s way to clean up the unclear assets from the evil cultivator. He nodded and stopped asking questions.
They walked away from the gossipy crowd.
The young man was taken away by security. The employees remaining at the scene looked at each other. Their eyes were lit with the fire of gossip.
What the fuck! As expected, the little boss’s wife is a noble young master from abroad. And his inheritance is from overseas. The young boss would use the big boss’ group of lawyers to deal with it. The amount of the inheritance is definitely not small.
Oh my god, this plot feels like watching a TV play!
