King of Classical Music 108

Berlin had a rare clear sky the next day. Cool wind blew over the Spree River, sweeping away the summerโ€™s dry heat.

However, Qi Mu wasnโ€™t comfortable for long. By noon, the hot sun brought someone unexpected along with the scorching heatโ€”โ€”

Akkad.

When he received the call, Qi Mu was sitting in the Bai Aiโ€™s rehearsal hall, listening to the third movement of ใ€ŠSymphony No. 6ใ€‹.

Fortunately, his phone was on silent, so he stepped out. He barely opened his mouth to speak when he heard Akkadโ€™s cold hum, โ€œLittle Seven, Iโ€™m at Tegel Airport. Where are you?โ€

Qi Mu, doubting his hearing for the first time: โ€œ…โ€

Qi Mu asked, โ€œProfessor… Where did you say you were?โ€

Akkad gnashed his teeth. โ€œTegel Airport. Damn it; I heard Tchaikovskyโ€™s ใ€ŠNo. 6ใ€‹. It sounds like Bai Aiโ€™s… Youโ€™re still there?!โ€

Qi Muโ€™s head spun at the anger in his voice. The old man hung up, leaving Qi Mu at a loss. He listened to the beeping on the line then his light-colored eyes widened. โ€œ… Professorโ€™s in Berlin?!โ€

The answer came twenty minutes later.

In the blink of an eye, the old man was at Qi Muโ€™s side.ย

Neither his appearance nor his awkward temper had changed in their two months apart. He still raised his eyebrows the same way when he got angry.

โ€œLittle Seven! You actually agreed to date that horrible Auston?!โ€ Qi Mu didnโ€™t have the chance to speak before his professor went on,ย  โ€œYou havenโ€™t even been together for that long, and youโ€™re already living together?! Damn it, that bastard must have deceived you. He kidnapped you!โ€

Qi Mu: โ€œ…โ€

Qi Mu coughed and said, โ€œProfessor, weโ€™re not living together. Itโ€™s tourist season in Berlin right now, so itโ€™s hard to find a hotel room. I didnโ€™t book any when I came, so I spent the night at Min Chenโ€™s yesterday…โ€ย

In the guest room.

โ€œWhat?! You stayed in his house?!!!โ€ Without waiting for Qi Mu to finish, Akkadโ€™s rationality collapsed entirely. He stared at Qi Mu and said, โ€œWhat tourist season, what no hotel?! Itโ€™s possible not to get a hotel in Germany, but if itโ€™s Auston Bertram, I donโ€™t believe it!โ€

Qi Mu looked at Akkad. Doubt in his tone, he asked, โ€œProfessor, what do you mean… ?โ€

Akkad shook his head bitterly and sighed, โ€œLittle Seven, youโ€™re too simple. Do you remember… What โ€˜Bertramโ€™ means?โ€

Qi Mu pondered, then replied, โ€œItโ€™s one of Germanyโ€™s last few families of Dukes and Min Chenโ€™s fatherโ€™s family… ah…โ€

โ€œDo you really think he couldnโ€™t book one little hotel room in his own base?!โ€

Looking at his studentโ€™s lovable face, Akkad was so worried, his heart almost broke. He sighed,ย  โ€œLittle Seven, oh, Little Seven, Professor told you before. That Auston guy is full of bad water! He canโ€™t be trusted!โ€

Qi Mu: โ€œ…โ€

Even if he wanted to refute, Qi Mu swallowed his words and listened to Akkad, until he remembered the โ€œpiano episodeโ€ the former night.

The sound insulation in the rehearsal hall was amazing. Standing outside the glass corridor, Qi Mu could hardly hear anything, despite being separated by only one wall.

After a round of preaching, Akkad heaved a long sigh and said, โ€œLittle Seven, Teacher has only been gone for two months, and you really got together with that devil?โ€

The word โ€œDevilโ€ was too familiar. Qi Mu couldnโ€™t help but think of Danielโ€™s words.ย

He didnโ€™t answer.

When the old man repeated the question, Qi Mu looked up at his professor and sighed.

Gently, he said, โ€œProfessor… Min Chen isnโ€™t as bad as you think. I know heโ€™s not perfect, but I like him.โ€

Akkad was in such a rage, he had to press one hand to the corridor wall to hold himself up. Supporting him, Qi Mu whispered, โ€œProfessor, no oneโ€™s perfect. I know his shortcomings, but I like him very much. And… isnโ€™t that enough?โ€

Akkad deflated under his studentโ€™s gentle persuasion and nodded, letting Qi Mu support him as they walked along the corridor.

The Spree River flowed, reflecting sunlight not far away. Though the temperature was boiling, people inside were comfortable. Qi Mu led Akkad to the window with the gorgeous view and stopped. He felt pleasant, gazing over it all.ย

Still, Akkad couldnโ€™t stop himself. โ€œLittle Seven… You see, this Auston is so bad. He deceived you once; he can do it again and again.โ€

The handsome young man wore a calm smile. Silently, he thought, โ€œIn fact, he lied to me twice yesterday.โ€ On the surface, he said, โ€œBut professor, I believe he will be good to me. And, I will be good to him. Even if he lied to me… It must be for a reason. He wonโ€™t harm me.โ€

Akkad was at a loss for words.

Seeing the old manโ€™s bewilderment, Qi Mu recalled the first time he met the professor. Akkad had just picked up a chocolate and gazed at it, the words โ€œIโ€™m just going to taste it for youโ€ plastered across his face.

His heart warm, Qi Mu said, โ€œProfessor, I hope… Can you bless us, please?โ€

No one could bear rejecting such a sensible and clever child, especially with eyes full of expectation. Even Akkad couldnโ€™t deny him.

When Min Chen got the news from Daniel and ran to find Qi Mu, he saw Akkad already standing beside him. Hesitating, he went over to them.

โ€œLong time no see, Reed.โ€ The manโ€™s voice resounded in the quiet corridor.ย

When Qi Mu turned to him, he saw the striking man walk towards him, calm and composed.

Immediately, Qi Mu had a bad premonition. Heart lurching, he turned to look at his mentorโ€”โ€”

โ€œAuston, you bastard! You still dare appear in front of me after leading my student astray?!!!โ€

Qi Mu covered his face, powerless. โ€œ…โ€

Raising his eyebrows, Min Chen asked, โ€œThen, Qi Mu and I will go first?โ€

Akkad: โ€œ…โ€

Qi Mu didnโ€™t see his mentor or Min Chen again for the rest of the afternoon. They went to talk somewhere Qi Mu didnโ€™t know and couldnโ€™t find. So, he stopped trying and minded his own business like he did at Farrellโ€™s house.

Min Chen let the orchestra practice by themselves. Under Christoleโ€™s arrangement, they formed an ensemble and practiced separately with their group chiefs.

Since Qi Mu planned to just watch Bai Ai rehearsing, he had left his violin at Min Chenโ€™s house. But, Christole was enthusiastic about letting Qi Mu play his spare violin for the first violin group.

Christole had long known since Qi Mu was Akkadโ€™s student, and he had received a 9.5 from Min Chen, his violin was bound to be exceptional. But, when he heard Qi Muโ€™s third movement of ใ€ŠSymphony No. 6ใ€‹, a glimmer of surprise still colored his gaze. He applauded him wholeheartedly.ย ย

The afternoon ended with Qi Mu and Christoleโ€™s mutual consultation. The members of the first violin group could only watch as their concertmaster, and the little angel spoke to each other without giving them a chance to join in.

When the two began to talk about Caprice 24, someone finally couldnโ€™t help but interject, โ€œStop! Christole… Weโ€™re supposed to practice ใ€ŠNo. 6ใ€‹ today…โ€

Once one began, the others followedโ€”โ€”

โ€œYeah, Iโ€™ve practically never touched Paganini since I left college. Those are nightmares!โ€

โ€œCan you not mention ใ€ŠDevilโ€™s Laughterใ€‹? That was my graduation track!โ€

โ€œOh please, can that even compare to me?! Iโ€™ve practiced all 24 caprices in my four years of college!!!โ€

…ย

Listening to them, Qi Mu kept his head down and covered his smile.ย

Frustrated that they hadnโ€™t learned their lesson, Christole said, โ€œYou guys, what are you saying in front of Little Angel? If the conductor knew you acted like this and ruined our Bai Aiโ€™s reputation… What do you think heโ€™d do?โ€

โ€œIf you and Angel donโ€™t say anything, how will he know?โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s right, Mr. Bertram trained me, and I would rather go to heaven than touch ใ€ŠInfinityใ€‹ ever again.โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t even mention that piece! I almost scrapped my fingers trying to play it in under 3 minutes and 55 seconds!โ€

Christole sighed helplessly while Qi Mu shook his head.

Once night fell, and the members of Bai Ai had packed up and gone, Qi Mu lingered. He stayed behind to laugh and speak with Christole. They were discussing how to improve and play ใ€ŠInfinityใ€‹ at the fastest speed when he heard a low, mellow voice in his ear.

โ€œQi Mu.โ€

Qi Mu turned.

The sunset acting as his backdrop, a tall man stood at the door of the rehearsal hall, looking at him. He looked like heโ€™d been waiting for a long time. Qi Mu couldnโ€™t help but return the tenderness in his smile.

Before he could meet Min Chen, his professor appeared behind him. Looking at him, his professor shouted, โ€œLittle Seven, hurry and pack your stuff…โ€

โ€œWe’re going back to Paris.โ€

Aww, Akkad you spoilsport!

Empress:

WHAT.

Ayn:

Min Chen agreed to this? โŠ™.โ˜‰

Kuro:

Couldn’t find a Hungarian violinist with NOVA in their name (the original), so searched around and found these three possibilities for the last track “Infinity”:

Who here wasn’t surprised papa/mama Akkad showing up? I was just surprised at his speed. He must’ve left the moment he heard his student being “kidnapped”. Poor Min Chen he never catches a break in his love quest. He never even gotten a small kiss before little angel is fluttering back to Paris. Keep at it Min Chen you will eventually get there. ๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ˜‰

What did Akkad say to Min Chen so that Qi Mu could go back to Paris again? The promise to graduate faster?

Thanks for the translation.
