Blitzkrieg
After two days of negotiations, Zuo Yang and Meng La agreed on a meeting place, a small private hospital in C city, T country.
Both Nine Eagles and Gunfire had a base and forces stationed in C city, so they weren’t afraid of the other party turning hostile without warning. They purchased the hospital together after finishing the negotiations. It had nothing to do with either side before that point, excluding the possibility of it being a trap. Moreover, it was in a very good location—it was close to the highway and surrounded by open space, so it was easy to notice anyone’s approach. All this made the hospital a place hard to attack and easy to escape.
“They really found a good place,” Gua Two gave an objective evaluation after looking at the map. “It’s unsuitable for open attack. Should we send someone to mix in with Zuo Yang’s troops, Jun-shao?”
Lian Jun shook his head. “No. Zuo Yang is slippery, I wouldn’t be at ease sending any of you into his hands. This time, our main goal is to save Old Ghost’s people. We don’t have to wait for Meng La to enter the hospital—as long as we make sure he brought them, we can attack when he approaches and snatch them.”
Gua Two nodded in understanding.
“Let Gua Three keep up his attacks on Gunfire’s hidden organizations, and call back Gua Five and Gua One,” Lian Jun continued. “Except for Gua Three, you’ll all follow me to T country. This time, we’re going deep into the territory controlled by Nine Eagles and Gunfire. Whether our operation is successful or not, we’re likely to encounter counterattacks from both sides, so we must be especially careful.”
Shi Jin put down his tablet at once and turned to look at him.
“You’re staying here. Gua Nine will accompany you.” Lian Jun seemed to know what Shi Jin was thinking and blocked his words before the teenager could even open his mouth.
Shi Jin frowned. “That doesn’t reassure me.”
“I want you to stay. It’s not because I want to protect you, but because I need you to guard the rear. Meng La is cunning and cautious, and fond of making plans with many layers to them. Whether or not he has doubts about this cooperation with Zuo Yang, after having learned about your importance to me, he’s likely to make a back-up plan and look for an opportunity to get to you. If Gunfire really targets this place, then with my and Gua Two’s absence, you’ll need to step forward to take the lead, try to fend off their attack, and protect yourself,” Lian Jun explained seriously. “This is the first task I’ve given you where you’ll be fully in charge. This time, there will be no one you can fall back on—all our people in the hospital will be at your disposal and you will be responsible for everyone’s safety. You’ll have to be more careful than ever. Can you do it?”
Since Lian Jun had said so much, Shi Jin suppressed the idea of following him to T country and nodded, despite knowing the situation he’d described wasn’t likely to happen at all. “Yes. I will guard the rear and do my best to protect everyone.”
“Uhm, I believe you will.” Lian Jun took his hand, the wrinkle between his eyebrows smoothing.
That same night, Zuo Yang and Meng La settled on the time—they decided to meet in the lobby of the private hospital at eight o’clock in the morning three days later. If either of them hadn’t arrived by the appointed time, it would mean their cooperation fell through and they openly became enemies.
During these three days, the members of Gunfire and Nine Eagles stationed in C city would empty the hospital, turn it into a temporary base, and prepare everything needed for cooperation, then wait for the two leaders’ arrival.
At the same time, there was a movement in several of Gunfire’s hideouts that Phantom was keeping watch over. Some hideouts transported people out in secret, but since they did it in multiple batches, Old Ghost was unable to determine which group were the real hostages. Afraid that a hasty action would alert the enemy, he could only suppress his impatience and hold himself back.
Upon receiving both of these pieces of news, Lian Jun didn’t linger and asked someone to pack up his luggage straight away, preparing to set off for T country on the same evening. Meng La was too cunning to let them save the hostages during transition—it seemed they had no choice but to wait near the meeting place.
At that time, Shi Jin was attending class. Learning that Lian Jun was about to leave, he hurried to excuse himself with Mr. Feng and rushed to the doctor’s office Lian Jun was using as a temporary study.
“Are you going?” he blurted out the moment he entered the door.
Lian Jun was in the middle of a phone call to Gua Seven about the arrangement of personnel, but concluded the conversation when he saw Shi Jin. Wheeling his chair from behind the desk and taking the younger man’s hand, he asked, “Gua Two told you?”
“Yes, when he came to pack your luggage.” Shi Jin squatted down and put his head on Lian Jun’s lap. His heart was bursting with things he wanted to say, but at the moment, he couldn’t utter a single word.
Right now, rather than give him an affectionate send-off, what he wanted was to lock Lian Jun up and not allow him to leave.
All of a sudden, he understood why Lian Jun had subconsciously avoided assigning him any tasks. When you liked someone, it was instinct to want them to always be by your side, to keep them protected and safe, close enough that you could touch them with a stretch of your hand.
Lian Jun touched the space between the teenager’s furrowed brows, leaned down, and called, “Shi Jin.”
Shi Jin looked up and couldn’t help but reach out and hug him. This position was quite uncomfortable, but he didn’t want to let go at all.
“I’ll hurry up and finish what needs to be done, then come back right away,” Lian Jun comforted, stroking his back. “I’ve been too busy lately. I haven’t taken a good look at you, or accompanied you properly for a long time… Shi Jin, I miss you very much.”
Somehow, Shi Jin immediately understood what he meant.
Although they’d met every day during this period, they hadn’t really been together for a while—because of everything that was happening, their nerves were tense 24/7, without a moment to relax. They needed time which belonged only to the two of them, to properly feel and indulge in each other.
“Come back safely.” Heart sour, Shi Jin kissed him, then held him tighter and said, “When we’re done here, you have to take a good rest and have a detailed physical examination. Remember that bet we made on the ship? This is my request. You gave your word you’ll do anything I want—you’re going to honor it, right?”
Lian Jun touched his head. “Okay, I promise you.”
After a brief farewell, Shi Jin personally took Lian Jun to the car and helped him get in.
Shi Jin stood still for a while after the car left, looking in the direction where it disappeared in the darkness. Then, he slapped his cheeks to cheer himself up and went back to the ward, shouting for Gua Nine. Once he got a copy of the information on the arrangement of the staff in the hospital, he wasted no time and busied himself with getting familiar with it.
Since Lian Jun had entrusted him with the task of protecting the hospital and personnel left behind, then regardless of whether this task was just an excuse for Lian Jun to make him stay here, he should take it seriously and complete it well.
That night, the leaders of Annihilation, Phantom, Nine Eagles, and Gunfire each set out from different places but headed for the same destination.
The night passed without incident. Shi Jin woke up early. First, he had a brief phone conversation with Lian Jun to confirm that everything was fine. After that, he called one of the official liaisons accompanying them, asking him to arrange for all the people of their team still living in the government residences of L country to be moved to the hospital in secret.
{We should move to the hospital?} The man couldn’t quite understand this decision.
“Yes, it would make protecting you easier,” Shi Jin replied. “Now that Lian Jun isn’t here, your safety is my responsibility. In addition, I need you to contact the government of L country and ask them to keep an eye on any suspicious people and vehicles entering the capital for the next three days.”
The official was aware of the relationship between Lian Jun and Shi Jin and wasn’t surprised that Shi Jin was in charge during Lian Jun’s absence. However, he found it hard to trust in Shi Jin’s ability due to his youth, so he said politely, {The matter of moving to the hospital has to be discussed with Mr. Lian first. I’ll help you contact the L country authorities and let them know about your request. I’ll inform you when there is any news.}
Shi Jin had expected this reaction. “Okay, I’ll wait for it.”
Ten minutes later, the official called to say that he would arrange for everyone to stay in the hospital and would try his best to convince the L country authorities to fulfil Shi Jin’s request. It was quite a dramatic change in attitude.
Shi Jin was gracious and thanked him for his cooperation and help, then sent Lian Jun a fawning text message. After getting [Study and eat properly] in reply, he happily went to direct people to prepare an adequate number of wards for the new arrivals.
That evening, the official liaisons gathered everyone from their team, boarded several cars disguised in various ways and, as required by Shi Jin, moved to the hospital as covertly as possible.
They were perplexed by Shi Jin’s caution, feeling it was excessive. They even thought that he was an overexcited child wanting to exercise the authority that had landed in his lap, and Lian Jun merely decided to indulge him. After all, the main battlefield would be in T country this time, nowhere close to the capital of L country where they lived, and the government residence was guarded by L country’s official forces. This “transfer for protection” was superfluous, plain and simple.
Shi Jin pretended not to see their doubts and dissatisfaction. Once they arrived and got settled in, he sent some people back to the building where they had lived, creating the illusion that they were still living in it. His actions had been so carefully concealed that even the L country soldiers protecting the residence didn’t discover that their charges had left.
The official liaisons were becoming more and more concerned that Shi Jin was letting himself get carried away. They wanted to talk to him and perhaps persuade him to calm down, but didn’t dare to—it seemed that due to their special relationship, Lian Jun would fully support anything Shi Jin did, no matter how absurd. As such, they could only swallow their grievances and keep silent.
After replying to Shi Jin’s text message, Lian Jun told Zuo Yang to call Meng La and ask him to see all the hostages to confirm that Meng La wasn’t bluffing and really had them in his hands; he’d do the same with Long Shi. Gunfire’s leader complied with this request.
Old Ghost stood in front of the screen, watching the unkempt, haggard figures locked in the back of a van, hands and legs cuffed. Both excited and distraught, he took a careful headcount of all the people captured on the video and said, “That’s all of them, the number is right! They don’t look good, that damn Meng La must have abused them.”
“Don’t get excited yet. Take another look—are you absolutely certain these people are your subordinates, not someone disguised as them?” Lian Jun confirmed.
Old Ghost’s eyes never left the screen. He kept watching for a moment longer, then nodded decisively. “It’s definitely them, I’d never mistake them!”
Relieved, Lian Jun sent confirmation to Zuo Yang, then began the formal preparations for the rescue.
Shi Jin sat cross-legged on the hospital bed. Fei Yujing, looking very unhappy, sat in a chair in front of him.
“You can’t restrict my freedom,” Fei Yujing stressed, voice harsh.
“I’m not restricting your freedom,” Shi Jin refuted, stern. “I just hope you can arrange any work that requires you to leave the hospital to be put off for a few days, or at least, if you have to leave, that you don’t drag it out into the evening.”
Fei Yujing’s face sank further. “You’re sending someone to watch me.”
“I’m sending someone to protect you, Mr. ‘I’m a very famous lawyer’ Fei. You’re too well-known—what if Gunfire targets you? You know this is an unusual time, just bear with it for a bit,” Shi Jin persuaded patiently.
Fei Yujing watched Shi Jin in silence, a cold chill radiating off him.
There was nothing he could do about that. Deciding to be generous, Shi Jin offered him his cup of milk, saying, “Here. Early to bed and early to rise and so on—drink this and go to sleep.”
Fei Yujing glared at him. He got up, wanting to leave, but caught sight of the tablet on the bedside table as he was turning around, displaying what appeared to be schoolwork. He stopped and looked at Shi Jin.
Shi Jin was about to retract the hand holding the cup, but seeing his brother turn this way again, he promptly extended it again and continued to prattle, “Milk really helps you sleep, it’s been researched. Gua Nine brought me this cup not too long ago; it was too hot then, but now it should be just right to drink…”
Fei Yujing turned around again and left.
“What a bad temper,” Shi Jin muttered, raising the cup to his mouth and drinking the milk himself.
In fact, if not for the situation requiring him to be ready to react at a moment’s notice, then not only milk, he’d also take a sleeping pill. Lian Jun left to fight with bad guys—Shi Jin couldn’t help but worry, and his sleep was fitful at best.
Over the course of the following day, there was little movement from all parties.
Lian Jun laid an ambush near the private hospital in C city. He would order the attack as soon as Meng La and his people got close.
Time crawled by until evening. At Lian Jun’s behest, Zuo Yang contacted Meng La again, confirming he still had the hostages with him.
Everyone awaited the appointed meeting time at 8 a.m. the next day. Shi Jin was so anxious he was unable to fall asleep; his mind just kept turning and turning and he couldn’t calm down. He felt as if the night was passing so slowly out of spite, and it was still slowing down even more.
Xiao Si couldn’t stand seeing him torment himself like that and urged him to try to sleep a little. Shi Jin also knew it wasn’t good to go on like this. He forced himself to lie on the bed and close his eyes.
The night passed in such a manner. At last, the clock showed 6 a.m.
Shi Jin, who didn’t sleep a wink in the end, got up and washed, then put his phone and tablet next to him, waiting for any news from Lian Jun.
T country. Around 7 a.m., three suspicious motorcades passed the boundary of C city, moving towards the private hospital from different directions.
Gua Two, who was in charge of keeping an eye on the perimeter, frowned at the news. He turned to Lian Jun. “As expected, Meng La is very cautious—he actually divided his team into three and made them approach the hospital at the same time. We cannot determine which one he stayed with.”
Lian Jun’s finger tapped on the armrest of his wheelchair. “Keep watching, don’t act rashly, and don’t let Zuo Yang mess up. We’ll wait until both Meng La and the hostages appear.”
Gua Two nodded and contacted Zuo Yang.
At 7:50, the three teams arrived at the hospital gate.
Zuo Yang had already been waiting there, leaning against a van. When he saw three motorcades coming in together, he sneered, turned around, and pulled open the van’s door, revealing the bound and tied Long Shi. He pulled out a gun, aimed it at Long Shi’s forehead, then looked at Gunfire’s cars that had almost surrounded him and raised his voice. “Stop with these boring tricks, Meng La—get off and show me Old Ghost’s people or we’ll shoot it out right here.”
As soon as he moved, Nine Eagles members, whether those who came earlier to prepare the hospital or those who accompanied their leader today, all pointed their guns toward Gunfire.
Gunfire’s members naturally reciprocated.
“Zuo Yang, this is our first real meeting. Is that how you welcome your partners?” A voice came from a car on the left side, and a man with bushy beard opened the door and got out. In the same manner as Zuo Yang, he opened the door of another van, exposing several bound people, then turned to look at Nine Eagles’ leader. “I told you, I’m sincere about this cooperation.”
Old Ghost jumped to his feet in excitement.
Lian Jun motioned to Gua Two to hold him back. He used the binoculars to determine the situation of the hostages, then contacted Gua One, who was lying in ambush with others. Having confirmed that there were no problems, he commanded, “Do it.”
The next second, several smoke grenades dropped into the open space in front of the hospital with a sound like fireworks lifting off. Soon, the clouds of smoke rose, enveloping all of the surroundings.
Nine Eagles’ members retreated the moment the smoke grenades appeared, soon disappearing behind all kinds of shelters and covers. By the time Gunfire’s members reacted and also attempted to hide, they were met with a hail of bullets from all directions.
Whizz—
A bullet flew from above, passing through the smoke to pierce straight through the centre of Meng La’s forehead as he turned to take cover in the car. The man’s body jolted, then he fell to the ground, an expression of shock, calculation, rage, and unwillingness forever frozen on his face.
In a flash, Gunfire’s side became chaotic. Gua One with a few subordinates took advantage of the confusion to approach the van with the hostages. They took out the enemies inside in a matter of moments, then Gua One got in the driver’s seat, started the car, reversed, and drove straight out of the battlefield.
Zuo Yang’s car followed close behind. However, as soon as they left the danger zone, it changed directions and sped away, turning into a fork in the road and disappearing from sight.
After seeing this, Gua Two laughed out loud. “Zuo Yang is so two-faced that it almost matches his stupidity,” he said with derision.
Lian Jun called Zuo Yang’s phone.
Zuo Yang actually picked up. He said, unbearably smug, {Thank you for helping me get rid of Meng La, he really pissed me off. Oh, and to tell you the truth, I actually have another sample of the poison, but don’t worry—after I force Long Shi to make the antidote, I’ll save your little sweetheart… with the right incentive, of course. Remember to prepare something I’d like, the price of the antidote won’t be cheap. C city is Nine Eagles’ territory, so don’t even think about chasing me, but just so you won’t say I didn’t give you a chance—you’ll have some time to withdraw after you finish dealing with Gunfire. Don’t delay though, or I won’t guarantee your life.}
“I’m not going to chase you.” Contrary to Zuo Yang’s expectations, Lian Jun’s voice was neither desperate nor burning with rage, but perfectly calm. “I’ll tell you the truth too—your subordinate never hit Shi Jin, he was never poisoned in the first place. Enjoy your freedom as long as you can. See you on the playing field.” He hung up, cutting off Zuo Yang, whose tone had undergone a sudden change, mid-word.
His phone started to ring like crazy, but Lian Jun ignored it and looked at Gua Two. “Make it quick.”
In a good mood, Gua Two acknowledged the order and went to help Gua One.
Half an hour later, the battle was over. All the surviving members of Gunfire, as well as those members of Nine Eagles who didn’t manage to escape, were tied up like giant hams.
Old Ghost hugged his rescued brothers, crying like a child. Lian Jun moved his wheelchair to where Meng La’s body was lying. As he opened his mouth to tell Gua One to clean it up, he noticed a small detail—there were no gun calluses on either of the corpse’s hands.
Frowning, he leaned over and pinched the muscles on the dead man’s limbs.
Gua Two noticed his actions. “Jun-shao, is something wrong?”
Lian Jun’s face sunk further and further. When he finished feeling the muscles, he looked at the corpse’s face and said in a heavy voice, “This man has flabby arms and no gun calluses. It’s definitely not Meng La—it’s a double.”
“What?” Gua Two’s face changed. He hurriedly bent down to examine the body.
In the hospital ward in the capital of L country, Shi Jin stared at his tablet and phone, which had been silent since the previous evening, and let out an involuntary yawn.
<Why don’t you sleep for a while? I’ll wake you up when there’s news,> Xiao Si suggested kindly.
Shi Jin rubbed his face in silent refusal. He got up, about to go and splash his face with cold water to refresh himself, when his expression took a sudden turn.
<JinJin.> Xiao Si’s tone also changed.
“I know.” Shi Jin glanced at his progress bar, which had risen to 600 a moment ago, and bent over to take his phone from the bed and mute it. The tablet, he turned off and stuffed under the mattress. After that, he called Gua Nine and went out, heading for the wards where Fei Yujing and others lived.
{What’s up?} Gua Nine picked up right away.
While observing the situation in the hospital, Shi Jin replied, “I didn’t get any messages from Jun-shao yet, and I’m a bit worried. Where are you? If you’re not busy, can you come to keep me company?”
{Sure,} Gua Nine replied. {I’m in the kitchen. What kind of breakfast do you want? I’ll bring it to you on the way.}
“Just bring whatever you like, I’m not picky,” Shi Jin said. As they chatted, he noticed Fei Yujing coming out of the ward-turned-living quarters, with his briefcase in hand and looking as if he was heading out to work. He quickly finished the conversation and hung up, then rushed to grab his brother’s arm. “Are you going out? It’s not healthy to skip breakfast, you shouldn’t do that. Is Mrs. Wen up yet? Let’s all have breakfast together.”
Fei Yujing frowned at him and shook off his hand. “I’m not in the habit of eating breakfast.”
“Lies, I saw you eat it last time.” Shi Jin held on to him. He saw Wen Baozhu coming out of another ward and raised his voice. “Good morning, Mrs. Wen! Would you like to have breakfast with us?”
Lawyer Wen had an amiable character. Since Fei Yujing was also there, she had even less reasons to refuse. “All right, let’s eat together,” she agreed.
Shi Jin promptly led the two towards his quarters. On the way, he called Gua Nine again, asking him to bring the other officials with him—they should all come over for breakfast.

In case you forgot (I at least had to refresh my memory): Lian Jun and the others are accompanied by three official liaisons (and presumably their assistants and/or protection detail; consult ch58). Both Annihilation members and the officials lived in a residence provided by L country government (ch60). After Shi Jin was “hurt,” Lian Jun and probably the Guas moved to the hospital, but the official team stayed behind in the government residence.
Also, lol, because of his name I keep forgetting, but Old Ghost actually isn’t old.
Check out our Happy Holidays post for pretty art by Con!

Thanks for the chapters!
Thanks for reading! 💕
Naturally, the main boss can’t die so easily. Perhaps we’ll see him again? ~( ̄▽ ̄)~*
Thank you for posting so close to New year’s eve 🎊
Thank you for reading~ 💖
Holidays mean more time for translating (…and family visits, so perhaps not as much as I’d like 😅)
Thanks for the chapter! Enjoy the end of the year and the beginning of the next one!
I’ll pray that the next chapters won’t be too cliffhanger like, seems like action is coming…
There will be one and there won’t be… ┻┳|・ω・)
Ti Shen… Oh-hohoho, I’ve read the first ten or so chapters back in 2014, when the translation just started. How time passes…
Sounds like LJ wasn’t just spinning impossible tales. Trouble is coming Jin Jin 😰
Thanks for the great translation ♥️
There is (>人<;)
Thank you for reading! 💕
Thank you, Eques!!! We all hope this stealing bs is over 🙃
Thank you! (ɔˆ ³(ˆ▿ˆ๑)
I doubt it but perhaps the anti-theft chapters made it a little harder. Oh well, I’m not gonna worry about this anymore~
Poor you, it was a lot of work this anti-theft part. I hope it helped against it. Shi Jin is very clever and work very well under pressure. He succeeded, without anyone noticing, to gather all the important people in one room, even his brother, to better protect them when the bad guys arrive.
Thank you! We’ll see~ (〃` 3′〃)
And what happens next gonna be epic 😁
Finally catched up 😁 Happy new year and thank u for the chapter ❤️
Thank you for reading, I hope you had fun (。^▽^)Happy New Year!
thanks for the chapter…its time for Shi Jin to show his prowess
Hmph. I just knew it. It was too smooth journey for that deal. How come such a cunning person as ML can be done just like that. No way. I’m expecting some action on the next chapter in Jinjin side?
Thank you for the update
I’m surprised re: your note below! You’re awesome, thank you for your dedication.
So where is the original Meng La?? Is he going to target the MC?
Thank you.
