Crossing to Live in the Wilderness Plains 001

Chapter 1

Chen Qi’s life was as ordinary as his name. Thus, having lived for nearly 30 years, he had never once considered that he’d encounter such a thing as crossing over into another world.

He had been standing in this vast snowfield for more than ten minutes, and he still didn’t know what he should do next. The near-frozen Chen Qi was used to being in a bustling city, with all kinds of noises all year round, yet he suddenly found himself in a desolate and quiet expanse with some unknown and vague information emerging in his mind, so he could only hope that this was all just a dream.

At the last moment he recalled, it had still been a dry, cool September. The next moment, he’d suddenly stepped into a few feet of snow. Chen Qi was very glad that he had accepted several more glasses of wine from his friends at the party. Also, when he’d left, he had conveniently worn someone’s black coat, so at least he wouldn’t directly freeze to death.

But my current situation is not that far from freezing to death, is it? Chen Qi thought silently and looked around. His eyes were filled with boundless white, and tall, withered, yellow grass that were being bent down by snow. There were a few tall trees scattered nearby, but there was no trace of human activity.

Chen Qi bundled himself up in his coat. The chill sank into his bones and made his movements stiff. But what made him even more uncomfortable was the vague and unclear information continuously bombarding his mind like an annoying mosquito buzzing around his ear.

Chen Qi did not dare to move from his position. This place was too strange. He didn’t know if there could be dangerous creatures hiding amidst that grass, which was half the height of a person, but he knew that he couldn’t just stand in the same place the whole time. The thin clothes he was wearing would leave him with no other way out of this situation besides freezing to death.

Inwardly, he encouraged himself, then he shook his head and bent down to find some relatively hard straw by his feet, which he broke off by folding down on it roughly, and used it to slap the grass in front of him as he walked to the tallest acacia tree not too far away.

In such a desperate environment, he had to set himself a small goal. Maybe he could climb to the top of that acacia tree to scan the surroundings. At a minimum, he’d need to know which direction he should head to have a better chance of survival.

A beastman, covered with white fur, squatted upon the tall branches of the acacia tree. On the first day of the first snow, he’d turned into a half-beast. Apart from his facial features, he was covered with thick fur below the neck, making him feel no chill in the first snow.

He had been squatting there all night, waiting to catch sight of a snow bear. Ake, his only good friend and his younger brother’s mate, was three months pregnant and their child would be born this winter.

For babies, winter in the Dora Plains was too cold, especially for the more delicate males. It was usually hard for the males born in winter to survive the first year. The white-furred beastman wanted to hunt the fur of the snow bear for this unborn child. The fur of the snow bear was the softest and warmest even if it was not tanned. All the beastmen with children in their families wanted the fur of the snow bear. Unfortunately, the fur of the snow bear was not so easy to obtain. Besides needing great strength, it also needed luck.

Snow bears did not always have that fur that was reputed to be the “softest and warmest”. The snow bears would come out to look for a mate during the first three days of the arrival of the first snow. It was the male snow bears that would grow that special fur at this time of the year to attract the attention of female snow bears. After the first snow was over, they would go back into the cave to hide and wait for the coming of summer. In summer, the snow bears’ fur would be hard and short. At this time, their fur was even worse than that of hyena-drakes. Therefore, if they didn’t manage to hunt down a snow bear that was out for the first snow, they would have to wait another year.

Aze, the white-furred beastman, didn’t want to miss the first snow this year, so he waited here early and paid close attention to his surroundings. As long as the snow bear showed its head, it would never escape his eyes.

Suddenly, Aze’s body tensed and his breathing slowed by half a beat. He leaned his body forward slightly. Heavens, what did he see? A lone male, unexpectedly walking in the snow.

The body moves faster than the mind, and he nimbly traversed downwards, slender fingers grasping at branches and jumping down the tree.

Chen Qi was almost unconscious from the cold. If there had been a mirror in front of him at this time, he would’ve surely seen his reflection donning a pale face and purple lips. He didn’t even know if he could still make it to the tall acacia tree alive. The straw in his hand had also lost its original function of detecting the danger in the grass, and instead he just continued stepping forward persistently.

Moving as fast as he could go, Aze rushed in front of Chen Qi and firmly enclosed him in his arms. Chen Qi’s body was very cold. Aze felt like he was holding a huge icicle. He hoped his body temperature could warm up the frozen male slightly.

Chen Qi, who was suddenly embraced by a huge heat source, was stunned. He felt that his brain was frozen and confused. He could not react to the current situation at all. He just felt that he was all of a sudden encased in warmth and fluff. He only wanted to bury himself deeper, as much as he could. With drowsiness induced by the warmth, he looked up. His eyes took in the sight of a handsome and cold face, though the worried look on his face somewhat softened the hard, stern-looking lines.

In a daze, Chen Qi barely noticed that he had been taken away from the cold snowfield. Although the new surroundings were still cold, there was no more wind constantly drilling into his body from all directions.

He didn’t know how much time had passed, but another heat source seemed to have appeared around him. The dryness in his throat burned like a fire and made him long to douse it with a few bottles of water.

As he was thinking, something hard came close to his lips and Chen Qi could slightly detect the odor of meat. His lips parted and he took a sip. It had a gamey scent and tasted a little salty and astringent; not very kind to the taste buds. However, at the moment, Chen Qi could completely ignore the taste. After swallowing, he felt his body slowly warm up from the inside out.

Someone nearby was saying something, but it was a strange language that Chen Qi could not understand. After drinking the offered liquid, he lazily nestled into the soft and warm cushion behind him and proceeded to fall asleep.

When Chen Qi opened his eyes again, it was because he was awakened by the uncomfortable hunger in his stomach. He looked around and saw a dark gray cave wall in front of him. There was a pile of firewood burning beside him and his body was covered with furs of unknown animals. Nearby, there was a small piece of hide laid out on the ground with several red fruits on it. They looked a bit like apples, but the color was unlike any of the apples he’d seen before in the supermarkets. Even though he was really hungry, Chen Qi did not dare to pick them up and eat them casually.

Aside from the gnarly hunger in his stomach, Chen Qi felt that his body was not too affected from nearly freezing to death. If he had to use one word to describe his feelings, it would be Awesome. Coming out largely unscathed from that predicament was undoubtedly a surprise to him.

The cave was not big and the entrance was surrounded by a circle of dry branches that acted as barriers.

Chen Qi carefully bypassed the barriers and went out of the cave. He was still in the endless grasslands, but there was no trace of snow on the grassland anymore. It was as if the snowfield that had been laden with several feet of snow had disappeared overnight. The withered weeds of many shades of yellow were swaying in the wind. A white sphere five or six times bigger than the moon hung in the blue sky. Next to it was a pale purple sphere that resembled the moon. The sun in the middle was shining with warm light. The temperature was as warm and cool as the temperature in G City before Chen Qi came here.

Well then, Chen Qi decisively concluded that he had crossed over into another world, and maybe onto another planet, even. At the very least, he could assuredly say that the planet he had lived on for nearly 30 years did not have two moons in broad daylight. Not to mention, of course, that there would not have been two moons to begin with.

Previously, before he had fallen asleep, Chen Qi had a headache from the annoying mosquito-like buzz in his brain. Now, he realized that the sounds were pieces of information, some basic information about the planet.

The information in his mind did not mention the name of the planet, but Chen Qi was currently residing in the largest plains on the planet, the Dora Plains.

The Dora Plains and its neighboring Loya Forest divided the continent of the planet into two almost symmetrical parts, both encompassing very large areas of land. No one had ever been able to pass through Loya Forest. The forest was occupied by a large number of stegosauruses*. Anyone who tried to cross would be pierced by their hard and sharp horns.

*剑龙 Jiàn lóng= literally sword dragon

The human beings on this planet were called “beastmen”, and they did not differentiate between men and women. Both had the same physical characteristics. However, those that could turn into beast forms were called “females”. They were physically strong and responsible for bearing children as well as hunting and supporting their families. Those who could not turn into beast forms were called “males”. They were smaller than females and their survival rate was also lower. They were responsible for gathering and harvesting along with raising the children.

The planet only had two out of four seasons; winter and summer. Of the two, summer was still acceptable as the temperature was similar to that of where Chen Qi was originally from. Although it was hot, it wasn’t too hot. Winter, on the other hand, differed greatly. At its coldest, each breath could directly become ice. In this primitive place without the convenience of heating, and where the warmest clothing was still only made of skins or furs, even the strongest beastmen couldn’t go out at will.

Moreover, in such extreme weather, if ten children were born, five females and five males, the five females were likely to live to adulthood as long as they didn’t encounter any fatal attacks. However, even if the males were carefully protected, having just one survive until adulthood would still be considered a high survival rate. Therefore, males were extremely rare. For all beastmen, regardless of their tribe, protecting the males was basically the most important instinct engraved into their genes.

Only if the males survived would the beastmen not be eliminated by nature.

The snow Chen Qi encountered before was the first snow of the year on this planet. It was a rather peculiar phenomenon. The first snowfall would come before the start of winter. This snowfall would only last for three days. After three days, it would melt and seep into the ground overnight as if it had never occurred. Then the weather would maintain a cool temperature for one month, and the next snowfall after that month would indicate the start of winter.

Assuming the concept of four seasons, the month following the first snowfall would be considered autumn. Many fruits matured one after another during this time, and the activities of various animals became more frequent and they began their preparations for their long-distance migration. This was the time when all the beastmen dispatched to gather, store, and prepare their food reserves for the long winter months ahead.

Chen Qi was very glad he arrived here during the first snow. At least he still had one month to prepare for how to survive in this strange place, such as finding a beastmen tribe to take refuge in.

As he was nostalgically reminiscing about the civilized years that were now long gone, Chen Qi’s gaze was attracted by a gradually approaching figure.

It was a tall and sturdy man, dressed in fur coverings. Even though the body under the coverings no longer had a thick layer of white fur, Chen Qi still recognized this as the man he had seen before he fell into a coma amidst the snow. It seems that this man saved him and brought him to this cave.

Over his shoulder, the man was carrying a lamb that had been slaughtered. One hand held on to the prey, while the other held a completely stripped sheepskin, which was wrapped around two turquoise fruits the size of coconuts.

“You’re already up?” The man’s voice was a bit hoarse as if he was not used to talking to others. He sounded a little hesitant, yet undertones of eagerness to please seeped through which were slightly out of sync with his cold and impassive expression.

Since the other was at least half a head taller, Chen Qi had to raise his head a little in order to see the man’s face clearly. It was really hard to imagine such a sturdy and robust person being one who would give birth to children.

“Was it you that saved me?” Chen Qi discovered that he could understand the other’s words. He remembered that the other man had spoken to him while his consciousness was wavering, but the spoken language was an utter mystery to him at that time and he could not understand it at all. Yet now, he could suddenly communicate with him in his mother tongue without any sense of contradiction. It seemed to be part of all the inexplicable information flooding into his mind. Chen Qi could only treat it as his own golden finger and be grateful that he could at least communicate with the native creatures on this planet without barriers.

The man nodded. Then he pushed aside the barrier at the entrance of the cave and entered the cave with a few strides of his long, slender legs. Chen Qi paused for a moment before he followed him inside.

The man laid the sheepskin on the ground before placing the prey on it. Then he picked up one of the blue fruits and a long fingernail suddenly appeared from the tip of his slender finger. The fingernail sliced across the top of the fruit, and the milky white liquid flowing inside was exposed in an instant.

The man handed the opened fruit to Chen Qi, who accepted it. The shell of the fruit was very hard and a cold sensation emanated from it and chilled his hand.

“Drink.” The man motioned Chen Qi to drink the juice inside.

Chen Qi gently took a sip of the drink and felt the cold liquid flow into his mouth. Although it was milky white, it didn’t have the milk flavor at all. The taste was very light, more like sweetened water.

Seeing Chen Qi drinking, the man opened the remaining fruit, which was a bit bigger, in the same way. After he finished opening it, the man walked to the front of the fire and pulled out a few smaller pieces of wood that were still burning. Then he picked out a thicker branch to set next to it and made a simple shelf. He put the fruit on the newly built fire, and then, with his fingernails, he cut off pieces of meat from the prey next to him and put them into the fruit. After everything was finished, a simple rack was set up over the fire and the whole lamb was placed on top to be barbecued.

Chen Qi watched the man busying about in astonishment, then sighed at the thought that the other’s fingernails were really not so easy to use. Looking down at his own manicured bare nails, he hurriedly took a sip of juice to withstand the blow to his pride.

He was just an ordinary person, envy be gone.

The man kept silent. After finishing his work, he sat in front of the fire and stared dazedly at the slowly roasting lamb.

Chen Qi stared at the other’s side profile for a few minutes. After confirming that the other man’s silence was not because he was bored with him, he decided to break the awkward atmosphere.

“My name is Chen Qi. What’s your name?” Chen Qi asked as he offered him the other half of the fruit he had drunk. The man brought back only two of these fruits, and one of them was cooking in the fire. So, Chen Qi was embarrassed about drinking all of the fruit in his hand. After drinking a few mouthfuls of fruit juice, his hunger also became more obvious. There was a whole lamb roasting over the fire, and he didn’t want to fill his hunger with water.

Seeing Chen Qi’s action, the man was visibly a little surprised. Aside from his younger brother, he had never received any food from any male.

Chen Qi continued to hold out the fruit to him for a full minute. He’d begun to wonder whether the other disdained to drink after him or whether it might be  considered rude for him to offer half of the fruit to a virtual stranger when the man finally reached out to take it.

“Aze.” Although the man took the fruit, he did not drink it. He’d only managed to find these two laiche fruits* nearby. ”My name is Aze.”

*水乳果Shuǐ rǔ guǒ, literally water milk fruit. I didn’t find any real fruit name this referenced, and since it doesn’t seem like actual milk, decided on laiche which is a synonym of milk

As the one who opened up the conversation, Chen Qi naturally did not remain silent any longer. ”Aze, is your tribe nearby?”

Aze’s body tensed up a bit. Although the population of the tribe had decreased a lot, he was still reluctant to bring this new male back to it. Two years ago, he’d brought a male he’d rescued in Loya Forest back to the tribe, and another strong female in the tribe snatched him away the very next day. Although Aze did not think it was a big deal, the matter still left a bad taste in his mouth.

“I don’t live in a tribe.” Aze lowered his head and rubbed the hard pit of the laiche fruit. He was not telling a lie. He did not live in the tribe. Instead, he lived a little ways away from the tribe, in a barren forest, where several tall fig trees grew.

“Do you live alone?” Chen Qi frowned, how high is the survival rate of a single beastman in such a place? Though, looking at the other’s condition, it didn’t look like he’d have too much difficulty surviving. The man seemed to be a powerful beastman. Though he didn’t know how tightly he could hold on to this thigh, at present, he had no other leads to find a beastmen settlement.

Aze nodded. “Where is your tribe? I can take you back. You shouldn’t run to the plains alone.”

“Well, I don’t have a tribe.”

Aze hesitated for a moment, then said with a little chagrin, “I’m sorry.”

Chen Qi smiled a little wryly. Looking at the other’s expression, he probably thought his tribe was destroyed.

The tribes that lived in the Dora Plains not only had to deal with bad weather every year, they also had to deal with attacks from the hyena-drakes. Every year, the hyena-drakes would raid beastmen tribes. The hyena-drakes lived in the deepest part of Loya Forest and only came out to the plains when winter arrived. Even a stegosaurus couldn’t cope against a horde of hyena-drakes. In order to survive, many tribes could only seek refuge from larger tribes.

Three years ago, Aze’s tribe was also a middle-sized tribe in the Dora Plains. But in the cold winter of that year, a group of hyena-drakes ambushed the tribe. Although they managed to withstand the attacks, the tribe also paid a great price. Many powerful females had perished in the battles. At that time, the patriarch could only lead his tribe to the Lion-Wolf Tribe nearest to them. Only some of the tribesmen who had lived there for generations, and those that did not want to leave, had stayed behind.

Chen Qi also knew about the threat of the hyena-drakes. Not to mention these monstrous hyena-drakes from Loya Forest, even the more ordinary hyenas* in the plains were already beyond Chen Qi’s ability to handle. At the moment, considering that he only had one month to prepare and that he was unable to go hunting in such cold weather like the beastmen, he only hoped to find a relatively safe place to survive the first winter.

*The hyena-drakes from Loya Forest were called 鬣龙 liè lóng, which is literally mane dragon, but the term for hyenas uses 鬣狗 Liè gǒu, which is literally mane dog

“Aze, how many tribes are there?”

Aze thought for a moment and said, “I don’t know how many tribes there are in the Dora Plains, most of them are established along the Dosa River. The largest tribe nearby is the Lion-Wolf Tribe, which is said to have thousands of people.”

“How many people are there in your tribe?”

Aze paused. He didn’t want the man to go to his tribe. Their tribe had less than one-fifth of their previous population remaining and were mostly older females. Although the hyena-drakes had not attacked them in the past two years, in winter, hyena-drakes were not the only threats to the tribe. Under Chen Qi’s puzzled eyes, he told him truthfully, “Our tribe was attacked by hyena-drakes before. The patriarch took the others to join the Lion-Wolf tribe, and now there are less than 30 people left.”

Chen Qi thought for a moment and asked with a smile, “Aze, I have no place to go now. Can I go back with you?”

Aze looked up at Chen Qi. “You want to go back with me?”

Chen Qi nodded. “En, I can build a small house next to yours. Do you mind having another person nearby for company?”

“I don’t have a pregnancy pattern.”

“Pregnancy pattern?” Chen Qi did not understand how the topic was suddenly derailed.

Aze put down the laiche fruit and tightly gripped his right wrist. There was a piece of hide tied to it. He hesitated for a moment, then slowly untied the hide and reached out his hand to Chen Qi.

Chen Qi followed his movements and looked at it. Perhaps because it had long been shielded from sunlight, the skin on his wrist was whiter than elsewhere, so what Chen Qi saw was simply smooth, white skin.

Aze’s deep voice did not betray any emotion. “Do you still want to come back with me?”

Only then did Chen Qi realize what Aze was talking about.

The pregnancy pattern was a stripe that appeared on the right wrist of all the female beastmen in the Dora Plains when they were born. The deeper the pregnancy pattern, the higher the female’s fertility rate. A female without a pregnancy pattern would not become pregnant. There is also a saying that a person without a pregnancy pattern was abandoned by the beast gods. This special kind of person would be unable to receive affection or love from others wherever they went. Chen Qi really didn’t expect that the reason why the tall beastman in front of him chose to live alone was not just that he was strong enough to live alone on the Dora Plains. It was more likely that he was excluded from the tribe because he could not be accepted by them.

Chen Qi stretched out his hand and caressed Aze’s bare wrist. This move was too ambiguous for the beastmen. But at that moment, Chen Qi just wanted to offer comfort to the first friend he’d made after coming to this strange place. He could feel the faint sadness from the other man as he took off the skins on his wrist.

Chen Qi did not understand the beastmen’s sentiments about the pregnancy pattern. He was unfamiliar with everything in this world. The whole of the information he knew about this world was from the basic impression that had suddenly poured into his mind.

The person in front of him was the first of his kind he’d met. Chen Qi never thought he’d be prone to imprinting, but he did feel that Aze was a bit special for him. In that desperate situation where his body was freezing little by little, and his life was fading away little by little, it was this tall beastman that appeared in front of him and pulled him back from the hand of death. Chen Qi was grateful to this man, so, at that moment, he just did not want the man to feel depressed.

“Of course, as long as you are willing, I want to go back with you.” Chen Qi looked straight into the other’s eyes and slowly added, “You know, I can’t survive out here alone. If you don’t take me with you, I will freeze or starve to death here.”

Aze paused and said hesitantly, “Actually, I can take you to the Lion-Wolf Tribe. You are a male. They will be very willing to accept you.”

“Why?”

“The Lion-Wolf Tribe is surrounded by mountains on three sides and is the largest and safest place nearby. There are many powerful females guarding it.”

Chen Qi pondered for a moment. At first, his consideration was to find a tribe to settle down in. It was naturally safer to take refuge in a large tribe with a large population, but in that case, he would be separated from the tall man in front of him.

Crossing  to Live in the Wilderness Plains (CLWP)  is translated by Betwixted Translations. The site you’re reading this chapter on stole our translation.

At Chen Qi’s sudden silence, Aze silently looked away. He took out a whitish-gray-colored stone and smeared it carefully onto the roasting lamb. Although he wanted to pretend to be indifferent, his eyes dimmed and revealed a hint of helplessness. The previous male he’d saved had alienated him after he discovered his lack of a pregnancy pattern, and after he was brought back to the tribe, he was no longer willing to come into contact with that rescuer of his. This person in front of him would be like that too. Compared to following a man abandoned by the beast god to a small tribe that couldn’t even cope with the hyena-drakes, it was better to take refuge in a big tribe, where a male could get preferential treatment.

Chen Qi watched the man wordlessly break off a corner of the light gray stone and put it into the boiled mutton soup. He somehow looked miserable, like a pug waiting for the master’s sentence. Though it did not seem to make sense to describe a tall, sturdy man like that, calling the other man’s expression pug-like at this moment was really quite fitting.

Forget it, considering that this man had in fact saved his life and found food for him, following this beastman would not necessarily be worse than going to a big tribe. If he really ended up unable to get along with him, he could still consider taking refuge in other tribes later.

“Aze.” Hearing Chen Qi call his name, Aze’s ear twitched.

Chen Qi looked at him, amused, “Can I go back with you?”

Aze turned to look at him. Chen Qi added, “Of course, if you think I am a burden, you can take me to another tribe, but I may be rejected by the tribes.”

“How is that possible? You are a male,” Aze retorted without thinking.

Chen Qi choked. He was really not used to that term. Should he be glad he didn’t cross over as a female? “It’s because I am a male that I’m out here.”

Aze frowned. “Were you banished from your previous tribe?”

Chen Qi let out a little laugh. “I also don’t need you to take me in. You can just find an empty house in your tribe for me. Since so many people have left your tribe, there must be a lot of empty houses, right? Of course, if you don’t mind, I’d rather build a house next to yours, so that we can keep each other company. And you can teach me how to hunt when you have time.”

“Males don’t need to hunt, and I can feed two people, so there’s no need to worry in the winter.” Aze fidgeted with the light gray stone in his hand. “My house is big enough for two people. Of course, you can also build another house. I’ll help you build it.”

“Then it’s settled.” Chen Qi clapped Aze on the shoulder happily.

Aze stumbled a little, obviously shocked.

At that moment, Chen Qi finally decided to ask about what he’d been curious about since earlier. He pointed to the whitish-gray stone in Aze’s hand and asked, “What is this? Why are you putting it in the food?”

“This?” Aze handed him the stone. “Lick it.”

Chen Qi took it, tossed it around in his hands, and observed it for a moment. Then he sniffed it. There was nothing special about it. He brought it to his lips and gave it a lick. It was a little salty and astringent. His eyes brightened. “Salt?”

Aze nodded. “This is a salt stone, from trading with the tribes in the Central Plains.”

Although it was salt, there were too many impurities in it, leaving it mixed with a bitter taste. Could the gray parts even be eaten?

Aze passed the cooked mutton soup to Chen Qi using a clean fruit husk. The faint smell of mutton charged at him, and Chen Qi’s stomach rang a few times in response. Chen Qi took it awkwardly and thanked him. Aze smiled and went on fiddling with the lamb that was almost finished roasting.

Blowing gently, Chen Qi couldn’t wait to drink a mouthful of it. He was really hungry. Perhaps because the mutton soup made with the juice from the laiche fruit was not strong, there was still a faint hint of astringency in the soup. Chen Qi suspected that it was a problem of the impurities in the salt stone. It seemed that after settling where he would live, he would need to consider refining the salt stones. He wasn’t sure if eating too many of those impurities would be harmful to their health.

After drinking the bowl of mutton soup, Chen Qi felt warm all over. Aze retrieved the empty husk and gave him another bowl of it. Laiche fruits were not big. After two bowls, the bottom was reached. Chen Qi was a little puzzled. “You’re not going to drink any?”

“I’ll just eat the barbecue.”

Chen Qi didn’t hold back anymore. He was hungry. He drank the mutton soup and stared at the roasted lamb that was giving off such a robust aroma of meat. Seeing this, Aze reached out with his right hand, and using the fingernail of his forefinger which suddenly grew longer, he neatly sliced a piece of meat from the leg of lamb, placed it on a leaf lying at the side, and offered it to Chen Qi.

Eyes bright, Chen Qi stared at Aze’s index finger. The nail that had completed its task had already returned to its normal length. “Your fingernails are really convenient.”

The tips of Aze’s ears turned slightly red. It was the first time he was praised by a male.

After the two had had enough to eat and drink, Chen Qi stretched himself out comfortably while Aze wrapped up the uneaten half of the lamb with clean cattail leaves. ”Aze, when shall we go back?”

“Is your body feeling alright?”

Chen Qi patted his chest. “Yes, couldn’t be better.”

“Then I’ll pack up my things and we’ll set off in a little while.”

Chen Qi stood up. “Can I help you?”

Aze shook his head and handed over a red fruit. It was the fruit he’d seen when he’d just woken up which looked a bit like an apple. “No, you can just sit to the side, eat some fruit, and have a rest.”

“What kind of fruit is this?”

“Red berries.”

“. . . Berries?” Berries that are like apples? Chen Qi looked at the fruit in his hand with surprise on his face. It seemed that the things here were quite different from the ones he’d known. He took a small bite, and his first impression of the fruit was that it was different. It was not crisp like an apple but was soft like a persimmon. His mouth filled with fruit juice which could only be described as “sweet” and “very sweet”. Just like fruit juice with added sugar, it was extremely delicious.

Looking at Chen Qi’s smiling face, Aze couldn’t help feeling pleasure in his heart. Fortunately, his younger brother always sent him to look for red berries. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have known that males like these kinds of sweet things. He could probably find out more about the preferences of males from his younger brother in the future.

Aze’s speed was very fast. Chen Qi had just finished eating one fruit and Aze had already finished packing. Of course, there were only a few skins and the leftover half of roast lamb to be taken away.

I’m came here a bit wary but this is actually alright. There’s a review saying they dropped this because it’s the females that’s hunting, working etc but also the one giving birth and they were turn off. The guy probably haven’t read any matriarchal plots lol. Also, the setting wasn’t so farfetch. I don’t remember what kind of, but there’s a species of insects where it’s also the females that are worker and also give birth while the males are the precious rare ones yet weak. Fortunately, I turn my mind and realized, then isn’t this a gong MC? I… Read more »
