Death Progress Bar 135

Reflection

Lian Jun brought Shi Jin to the bathroom.

“Take a shower and change out of your wet clothes,” Lian Jun ordered.

Shi Jin obediently complied, raising his hands to take off his wet clothes. Seeing that Lian Jun had no intention of going out at all, he hesitated for a moment and said, “Why don’t you wait outside for me? You’ll get caught in the steam in here, and the clothes you got wet from me need to be changed too—”

Lian Jun suddenly stood up from his wheelchair. With a pull of his hand, he slipped off the belt of his robe, removed his clothes, stepped forward, pressed Shi Jin’s shoulders to push him back against the shower wall, and reached out to turn on the shower tap.

Splashing water poured down over their heads. At first it was cold, but then it gradually warmed up.

Behind Shi Jin was a cold wall, and in front of him was Lian Jun’s warm body. Enclosed in a narrow space by Lian Jun, he couldn’t help but hold his breath. His gaze fell upon Lian Jun’s pale face, meeting his dark, heavy eyes that clearly showed he hadn’t calmed down yet. His heart trembled, and instinctively, his gaze followed the line of Lian Jun’s jawline— which had become even more pronounced after losing weight— down toward his body.

“Don’t look,” Lian Jun suddenly raised his hand to cover his eyes and said, “It looks ugly, don’t look.”

Hearing this made Shi Jin feel deeply aching inside. He reached out to embrace him, saying, “No, you’re always the handsomest.”

Lian Jun stepped back to dodge his hand, glanced at his body that was so thin it looked like a skeleton, closed his eyes tightly, tightened his hand over Shi Jin’s eyes, and suddenly turned him around forcefully. With one hand holding him down so he couldn’t turn back, Lian Jun reached down with the other to pull out his robe belt, then stood up straight and tied the belt around his eyes.

“Lian Jun?” Shi Jin was a bit confused.

“Just stay like this, don’t move.” Lian Jun held down his body as Shi Jin tried to turn back, leaning in to hug him from behind and resting his forehead against Shi Jin’s shoulder. “Don’t look at me, and don’t touch me. Just… stay with me quietly for a while.”

The body pressed against his back had a slightly low temperature, and leaning against it felt like feeling nothing but bones. Shi Jin felt a dull ache in his heart. Tightening his fists, he forced himself not to return the embrace, turning his head back toward the wall, and replied, “Okay… I won’t look at you.”

Water splashed down continuously, and steam gradually filled the room.

“Mmh,” Shi Jin suddenly let out a low hum, his body involuntarily fidgeting.

“Don’t move,” Lian Jun held him still. “Let me take a good look at you.”

Shi Jin endured and stayed still, feeling Lian Jun’s hands roaming wildly over his body, his breathing growing increasingly erratic— Th-this, how was this looking? Who looks at someone using their hands…

Lian Jun was indeed looking at him— looking at his enduring expression, looking at his excited appearance, looking at his skin flushed with desire… He was still alive. He held Shi Jin tightly, feeling Shi Jin’s higher than usual body temperature, listening to his rapid breathing, and slid down slightly, pressing against the back of his heart to capture his faster than usual heartbeat. The anxiety hanging in his heart finally settled into reality.

Still alive.

“Don’t run around recklessly anymore.” The arm wrapped around Shi Jin’s waist tightened inch by inch, wishing he could embed Shi Jin into his own body right then. After a long while, he suddenly stood up straight, turned his head, and bit down hard at the pulse on Shi Jin’s neck.

Shi Jin’s body shuddered, then abruptly relaxed, leaning limply against the wall, panting heavily.

The flow of water quickly washed away all traces. Lian Jun loosened his teeth, gently licking and kissing the mark he had bitten on Shi Jin’s neck, pulling his body away from the wall and pressing him into his arms.

“You are always so disobedient,” he said, kissing Shi Jin’s shoulders, which had relaxed after being tense, his voice barely audible. “I have to make you be a bit better behaved.”

Shi Jin was confined to the bedroom by Lian Jun. He wasn’t allowed to see outsiders or go out; his phone and tablet were confiscated. The only entertainment activity he could engage in was sitting by the window to watch the scenery, and the only two living people he could see were Lian Jun and Uncle Long.

Lian Jun didn’t stay in the same room with him; he only came over on time every day to eat with him, and then… touch him.

Certain embarrassing memories surfaced from the depths of his mind. Shi Jin shook his head vigorously to cast those memories aside, looked down, pulled open his pajamas to examine the various marks on his body, and buried his face in his hands in despair.

He knew Lian Jun was very angry this time and was willing to be punished, but, but this… coming three times a day like this, he would suffer from kidney exhaustion sooner or later! Besides, every time he was the only one getting worked up, while Lian Jun always remained neatly dressed with a calm expression, and didn’t even allow him to touch back— this wasn’t fair!

Although Uncle Long said Lian Jun’s body wasn’t suitable for doing anything right now, a kiss should be fine, right… But Lian Jun didn’t allow him to kiss. No, it should be said that Lian Jun didn’t allow him to do anything at all, only allowing him to… be touched obediently.

“He really is still angry,” Shi Jin rubbed his face hard, feeling deeply troubled. Lian Jun had never been this angry before, and he didn’t know how to coax him.

Xiao Si suddenly spoke up, its voice listless: <Jinjin, why is it that these past two days, every time Darling comes, you shut me in the dark room and only let me out after Darling leaves? Are you guys secretly arguing behind my back? Every time Darling leaves, your eyes are all red and you look so weak. Did you cry secretly behind my back? Did Darling bully you… Waaah, please don’t fight, I’m scared…>

Shi Jin was embarrassed and awkward hearing this, quickly explaining: “No, Lian Jun and I aren’t fighting, and he didn’t bully… anyway, that doesn’t count as bullying. Don’t cry, he and I are doing great, really.”

<Really?> Xiao Si confirmed pitifully.

Shi Jin replied dryly: “Really… I guess.”

After saying that, he felt listless as well, feeling a dull stuffiness in his heart.

In fact, it wasn’t good at all. Although Lian Jun would come to see him and be intimate with him, he hardly talked to him, had almost no expression on his face, and his eyes were heavy— clearly holding back his anger.

Even though the two of them met every single day, he still didn’t know what Lian Jun’s current physical condition actually was. Uncle Long had come over specifically to give him a summary of Lian Jun’s present status, but his words were extremely vague, using a vast collection of medical jargon that no one could understand. So right now he only vaguely knew that Lian Jun no longer needed to stay in the isolation ward recently and that his body was slowly recovering. Aside from that, he didn’t even know whether Lian Jun was eating properly every day.

Although Lian Jun accompanied him to eat these past few days, he really only accompanied him, not moving his chopsticks at all, claiming every time that he had already eaten before coming.

He really wanted to know what Lian Jun ate every day, how much he ate, whether he felt nauseated or turned off after eating; he also wanted to accompany Lian Jun for afternoon naps, help share his workload, and stay by his side at night to watch if he slept peacefully…

“How is his body doing after all…” Shi Jin slumped sideways on the bed, buried his head in the quilt, and punched the pillow twice in frustration.

Click.

The sound of the doorknob turning made Shi Jin freeze his pillow-punching motion. He hesitated for a second and didn’t roll over immediately to greet Lian Jun as he usually did, remaining lying sideways with his back to the door.

The sound of a wheelchair rolling into the room sounded, followed by the closing of the door, and then the wheelchair started moving again… At a location where the bed could roughly be seen, the rolling sound paused briefly before continuing. Instead of heading toward the desk as usual, it moved straight toward the bedside.

The closer the sound got, the more nervous he became. Finally, just as Lian Jun was about to come around to see his face, he chicken-heartedly closed his eyes to pretend to be asleep.

The sound of the wheelchair stopped by the bed, and a shadow cast over his body. Shi Jin forced himself to relax his body and slow his breathing, trying his best to act as if he were fast asleep, feeling deeply regretful inside— If he had known earlier, he should have gotten up to greet him as usual. What if Lian Jun realized he wasn’t asleep and misunderstood that he was sulking? He didn’t know what wrong wire crossed in his brain just now that made him lie there without moving.

Pretend to sleep, pretend to sleep, gotta make it look real.

“Shi Jin,” Lian Jun’s voice sounded, somewhat quiet.

Shi Jin didn’t move.

The room quieted down. He didn’t know how long passed, but just as Shi Jin suspected Lian Jun had already left, a stream of warm breath fanned across his face, followed by a warmth on his lips.

Huh???

Shi Jin snapped his eyes open, looking at Lian Jun’s face right in front of his. He immediately wrapped his arms around his neck, parted his lips, and kissed back forcefully.

Lian Jun stiffened, hastily opening his eyes and trying to pull away.

“Don’t you dare leave,” Shi Jin pursued him, his eyes fierce, his kiss equally fierce, carrying a yearning that couldn’t be poured out from within and a desire to get close. “You were the one who took the initiative to kiss me this time, don’t even think about leaving.”

Meeting his gaze— pretending to be fierce yet actually full of grievance and missing him— Lian Jun’s fingers trembled, the warmth returning to his eyes and brows. Accepting his fate, he reached out to pull him into his arms, turned his head to kiss him back, and gently stroked along his spine.

How long had it been since he last felt this? This kind of gentle kiss of being cherished by the other person.

It was clearly affection he used to receive every single day before, yet now it suddenly felt incomparably precious.

In Shi Jin’s mind flashed the memory from before he left: Lian Jun lying pale and weak on the bed, unable to open his eyes no matter how he called out to him. His arms tightened, kissing more and more passionately. Finally feeling that Lian Jun was sitting too far away, he simply knelt at the edge of the bed and leaned over. Then, feeling that the food container on Lian Jun’s lap got in the way too much, he reached out, grabbed the container, set it on the nightstand, embraced Lian Jun, and pulled him down backward onto the bed.

The sound of the wheelchair being kicked aside echoed. Shi Jin entangled Lian Jun with hands and feet, coming close to Lian Jun’s face, continuing to kiss him messily, saying: “You can punish me however you want, just don’t ignore me, give me a little response…”

Lian Jun was dragged down to press on top of him. Seeing his frantic appearance and the faintly red corners of his eyes, Lian Jun’s heart softened. He closed his eyes, bit him with a bit of force to force his movements to pause, then pushed himself up and asked: “Have you reflected?”

Shi Jin looked up at his calm, commanding gaze, pursed his bitten lips, and his expression suddenly turned fierce. Yanking Lian Jun’s collar to pull him down, he said: “No! How am I supposed to reflect! Every day I worry whether you’re eating well, sleeping well, or if you’re uncomfortable somewhere— where would I find time to reflect! Stop having Uncle Long fool me with superficial talk, how is your body really doing? I’m terrified! Why won’t you tell me anything! If you’re angry, you can hit me, scold me, punish me. You obviously know I’ll worry, get anxious, and overthink, so why won’t you say anything, you—”

Lian Jun suddenly cupped his face and kissed him down, smothering all his words.

Shi Jin turned his head to dodge, determined to have a proper conversation with him today.

“I’m sorry,” Lian Jun suddenly spoke.

Shi Jin instantly stopped all dodging movements and looked up at him.

“Sorry for taking so long to wake up,” Lian Jun touched his face and asked, “Are you angry with me?”

Looking at Lian Jun’s complexion, which had become slightly rosier from kissing, Shi Jin was filled with mixed emotions. Compromising, he relaxed his body, hooked his arms around Lian Jun’s neck, and took the initiative to kiss him: “How could I possibly be angry… You’re too sneaky.”

Lian Jun rubbed the hair on the back of his head, closing his eyes to return the kiss.

After the kiss ended, the two embraced tightly, neither speaking first.

“You can lock me up,” in the end it was Shi Jin who spoke first, frowning as he admitted his fault. “I will reflect, but don’t stop talking to me. I want to know if you’re eating well and sleeping well.”

Lian Jun touched his hair and suddenly said, “It’s grown longer.”

Shi Jin froze, looking up at him: “What?”

Lian Jun stroked his face and said, “When we get back to the island, have Gua Six cut your hair for you.”

Looking at the gentle look in Lian Jun’s eyes, Shi Jin opened his mouth slightly, then pursed it tautly, buried his head to hold him tightly, and said fiercely: “You really are a bastard, sneaky and difficult… Fine! I’ll get my hair cut. Whatever style you want me to cut it to, I’ll cut it that way. I’ll listen to you on everything!”

Listening to Shi Jin’s voice raspy as he spoke, Lian Jun’s heart, which was never hardened toward him in the first place, softened completely. He bowed his head to kiss the top of Shi Jin’s head, sighing deeply in his heart— Forget it, let it be like this… I can’t really bring myself to make this person sad.

That night, Shi Jin got his wish and slept together with Lian Jun. Only then did he realize that Lian Jun had kept him confined and refrained from sleeping with him in order to conceal the fact that he needed IV drips every night to maintain his condition.

“What he needs most right now is quiet rest; traveling like this is still far too demanding.” Uncle Long adjusted the drip rate and couldn’t help reaching out to swat Shi Jin on the head, scolding: “You reckless kid, Jun-shao simply dotes on you too much!”

Shi Jin bowed his head and took the scolding.

“Though it’s also thanks to you.” Uncle Long suddenly softened his tone, taking a glance at Lian Jun sleeping soundly on the bed, and said: “I heard from Gua One and Gua Two that because of the shipping route issue, the underworld should be quite peaceful for a while ahead. Jun-shao can focus on recovering his health in peace… You brat, why do you always do things that make people both love and hate you? If I were your father, I’d give you a thorough beating!”

Shi Jin gently held Lian Jun’s hand and asked, “Uncle Long, tell me the truth. Was Lian Jun able to suddenly come out of the isolation ward because he underwent a more aggressive treatment method?” During the days of the meeting, Lian Jun’s progress bar decreased at a steady pace every day. Thinking back now, that definitely couldn’t have dropped through ordinary recuperation.

Uncle Long glanced at him, bent over to pack up his things, and said, “Why do you overthink so much? Don’t worry, all treatment measures Dr. Shao and I are currently taking for Jun-shao are within the range his body can handle. They won’t leave any sequelae, so don’t worry. Jun-shao’s trip this time really wasn’t as terrible as you imagined; there is an impact on his body, but it’s not severe, and he’ll nurse himself back to health after resting for a while. Get a good rest, and call me when the drip is almost done so I can remove the IV.”

Shi Jin watched him leave, glanced at Lian Jun’s progress bar stuck at 490 inside his mind, and bent over to press his forehead against the back of Lian Jun’s hand.

Liar. How could the impact be minor? The progress bar that had originally dropped to 470 had shot back up to 490, not to mention Lian Jun’s state, which didn’t look like sleeping at all, but rather like he had fallen unconscious…

“I’m sorry.” He extended his arms to embrace Lian Jun’s body, his voice very quiet. “For making you worry… I’m sorry.”

Lian Jun slept for over ten hours before waking up. During that time, the alarm on the nightstand rang right before the time Shi Jin usually woke up. Shi Jin felt stuffy in his heart watching it, so he popped the batteries straight out of the alarm clock, then lay back on the bed and hugged Lian Jun again.

Near noon, Lian Jun finally opened his eyes and woke up. Shi Jin immediately leaned over to kiss him, saying with a smile: “The ship has docked. Time to get up and go home.”

Lian Jun’s eyes were still somewhat groggy. He stared straight at him for a moment, then suddenly reached out to wrap his arms around his neck, pressing him into his chest.

“Lian Jun?” Shi Jin looked up at him and asked softly, “Not fully awake yet? Then let’s get up and eat something before sleeping again; you didn’t eat breakfast.”

“Just for a little while,” Lian Jun held him tightly, closing his eyes and speaking softly, “Just for a little while.”

Looking at his pale, bloodless face, Shi Jin gave a low response, hugged him back, and buried his head against his chest.

As soon as Lian Jun returned to the island, Uncle Long brought him straight to the ward for a detailed checkup. Only after finishing the examination was he allowed to eat lunch.

Shi Jin sat by the hospital bed, frowning deeply as he looked at the plain porridge and unappetizing nutritional meal replacement placed in front of Lian Jun.

“In a few days I won’t have to eat this. My stomach needs time to adapt slowly; eating this is only temporary,” Lian Jun explained, reaching out to smooth the furrow between Shi Jin’s brows.

“However, I can still drink soy milk. Go get a cup for me; I want to drink the soy milk from the small dining room.”

This was clearly an attempt to send him away.

Shi Jin understood it in his heart, yet had no choice. He stood up, kissed him, and said, “Then you eat first, I’ll go get the soy milk for you.”

On his way to fetch the soy milk, Shi Jin ran into Gua Six. Gua Six had a gloomy expression, but upon seeing Shi Jin, he hurriedly adjusted his expression, trying hard to act as if nothing was wrong, and greeted Shi Jin.

Shi Jin acknowledged him, but as he brushed past him, he suddenly stopped in his tracks, called out to him, and asked: “By the way, why haven’t I seen Gua One and Gua Two since getting off the ship? Where are they? I wanted to ask them about something.”

“Uh, well…” Gua Liu’s composure broke down completely.

Shi Jin realized something was wrong and frowned: “What happened to them?”

Gua Six glanced at him, gritted his teeth, and replied: “They went to receive punishment. This time, they hid things from Jun-shao and let you take risks, which was very wrong of them, so… Shi-shao, don’t worry, it’s not a severe punishment, just doing some heavy manual labor. They’ll be back in a few days.”

Receive punishment?

Shi Jin froze for a moment, nodded to indicate he understood, and continued walking toward the dining room with a tight frown. Speaking of which, he was actually the one who deserved to be punished the most— after all, he was the one who asked Gua One and Gua Two to hide it from Lian Jun…

Gua Six watched him walk away, muttering bitterly to himself: “Should I not have said that? But Shi-shao is the deputy leader now, so these matters can’t be hidden from him either… Ah, what am I to do…”

After Lian Jun fell asleep for his afternoon nap, Shi Jin stepped lightly out of the ward and sat on the bench outside, staring blankly into space.

Gua One and Gua Two had gone to take their punishment; Gua Five and Gua Nine took over the wrapping-up matters of the shipping lane incident; Gua Three was responsible for contacting Zhang Zhuoyuan and Lu Shan. All official business reports bypassed him and were conveyed directly to Lian Jun. He had become idle again.

If only he hadn’t made Lian Jun angry, then Lian Jun might still be willing to let him share some of the work right now…

A shadow suddenly loomed over him, and then his forehead was tapped.

Shi Jin snapped back to reality and looked up.

Fei Yujing stood before him and said, “I’m leaving.”

Shi Jin: “… Huh?”

“The energy matter is finished, and Lian Jun commissioned new work for me. I need to go meet up with Big Brother first,” Fei Yujing explained, scanning him up and down, and asked, “Confined by Lian Jun for a few days, have you turned silly?”

Shi Jin frowned and refuted: “He didn’t confine me, it’s that I made him feel insecure. Actually, it’s all my fault for being too inexperienced in handling things. I clearly hid it from him because I didn’t want him to worry, but it ended up making him worry even more and even caused him to come over in person to pick me up— Why did you hit me again!” He clutched his forehead, which had been hit again, glaring at Fei Yujing.

Fei Yujing withdrew his hand and said, “What are you overthinking here? From my perspective, the only wrong thing you did during this trip while leading the team was not reporting to Lian Jun in advance when you wanted to do something. Emotion aside, he is the leader, and you are the deputy leader. You have the right to lead the team in making decisions, but you have an obligation to inform him of your plans. In short, correct your mistakes, ask questions if there are issues, and don’t overthink by yourself. However, Lian Jun is also partly to blame for this— he gave you the status of deputy leader but didn’t teach you how to do it. For you to manage this well while crashing around blindly on your own is already quite good.”

Shi Jin refuted again: “How can you blame Lian Jun? He wanted to teach me, but his health was poor during that period, so he didn’t have the chance to teach… Ngh! Stop hitting me, I’m going to get mad.”

Fei Yujing gave him a flick on the forehead, not holding back this time. Seeing him wince in pain, he softened his force to ruffle his hair instead and said, “How can you be so dense… Figure it out yourself. I’m off, see you next time.”

Shi Jin reflexively grabbed his arm.

Fei Yujing turned his head to look at him, raised an eyebrow, and asked: “Reluctant to see me go?”

Shi Jin froze, quickly frowning and flinging his arm away, standing up to say: “What do you mean reluctant or not? You’re leaving by plane, right? I’ll see you off.”

Fei Yujing glanced at his flung-off arm and said, “Then let’s go. On the way, let’s look for Fifth Brother; he doesn’t know I’m leaving yet.”

Li Jiuzheng had returned to the island and immediately went to assist under Shao Jianping; he was also in the general building at the moment. Shi Jin found him, mentioned that Fei Yujing was leaving, and went with him to see Fei Yujing off at the island’s airport.

Before boarding the small plane, Fei Yujing suddenly turned to Shi Jin and said, “Next time you want to use me again, I’d be very happy to let you. Consider it me paying you back.”

Shi Jin froze, watching his back as he entered the cabin without looking back. A deeply complex surge of emotions suddenly welled up in his heart— sadness, grievance, unwillingness, and intense anger.

“What is this supposed to mean?” he couldn’t help speaking up, so angry his voice almost cracked. “Am I angry about that? Did I ever say I needed you to pay me back for these things, you bastard who changes faces faster than turning a page! Don’t you always act like you understand everything and have everything figured out? Why don’t you get it this time? Am I angry about this? What I’m clearly angry about is—”

His words stopped abruptly as he suppressed the memories surging up in his brain— memories of the original host after Shi Xingrui died, when no matter how he tried to contact Fei Yujing, he couldn’t reach him, completely and decisively abandoned by him, filled with confusion and grievance, with nowhere to ask for reasons. Taking a deep breath, he turned around, grabbed Li Jiuzheng’s arm, and while striding with him out of the airport, frowned and said: “Second Brother is a bastard, ignore him. Come on, Fifth Brother, I’ll take you to eat something delicious!”

Li Jiuzheng passively followed him, took a glance back at the airplane, his eyes slowly lighting up, and hurriedly held Shi Jin’s hand back, responding seriously: “Okay, let me go eat something delicious!”

Fei Yujing watched the two departing figures through the window, resting his chin on his hand, tapping his cheek: “Not angry about being used, then what could it be… A child’s mind really is hard to guess.”

Omgs I can’t believe you are finally back! Joining the discord group years ago just for this day was worth it. 😂🥰

Lian Jun will have to express his grievances better, shutting your partner out (or in this case: in) is not a solution.
