Chapter 111
Salt-Water Lake was located behind a range of rock mountains, and the beast people’s hunting grounds were a beach formed by the erosion of the lake water. Looking at the clear and magnificent Salt-Water Lake, which seemed endless at first glance, Chen Qi felt that it was more like a sea than a lake.
However, Chen Qi knew that despite the immense size of the Salt-Water Lake, it was still not a sea.
The rocky mountain range where the Salt-Water Tribe was located, according to its area, could only occupy a peripheral position on the edge of the Dora Plains. Beyond it was still endless plains. And at the end of the Salt-Water Lake, there would ultimately be a river that would carry the waters of the lake and merge into the true sea.
Despite not having received any information about the sea, Chen Qi still felt that there was a sea in this world.
Females, wearing short-sleeved animal hide garments, gathered on the beach. The sandy shoreline resembled the beaches Chen Qi was familiar with from his previous world, with soft sand of beautiful golden hues. The females’ hands had been transformed into claws, all ten nails fully adapting their beastlike aspects. They earnestly watched the water’s surface, which lay at a distance from the edge of the beach.
A loud “bang” accompanied by a towering spray of water attracted Chen Qi’s attention. Several tree trunks, thick enough to need a few people’s arm lengths to encircle, were forcefully plunged into the water. On one of the large floating logs in the water were two females wearing serious expressions crouched upon it. Their black hair was wet from the water, clinging closely to their foreheads, while water droplets glided smoothly down their hair and dripped onto their beautiful, bronzed skin.
“Bang!” Another thunderous strike against the water’s surface resounded, and another massive log floated closer to the shore. A tall, middle-aged female was pulling back the vines entwined around another log that lay in the water. Once it was successfully tugged within reach, he effortlessly stooped down and lifted it. The log beneath his feet sank slightly under the sudden increase in weight, causing him to sink into the water halfway up the ankles. However, the female’s figure remained unaffected by it, as if he had become one with the gigantic log.
With his back turned against the sunlight, the middle-aged female’s blue eyes appeared exceptionally bright. He plunged his sharp claws into the robust log and used one hand to support it, while the other hand lifted the log high above his head. The strain of exertion caused his muscles to tense, forming distinct contours. With a powerful thrust, he once again slammed the log into the water.

As the water splashed into the air and came crashing back down, it drenched the middle-aged female’s head and face. However, he appeared completely unaffected by it, clearly paying no mind to it.
“What are they doing?” Observing the female’s peculiar actions, Chen Qi turned to Axu, who was leading the way ahead, and inquired with a puzzled expression.
Axu didn’t take them to the beach, but instead led them to an elevated pile of rocks. From this vantage point, they could overlook the entire beach.
“They are drawing out the whale sharks.” Axu explained.
“Whale sharks?” Wasn’t Salt-Water Lake supposed to be a lake? Why would there be whale sharks appearing here?
Without giving Chen Qi a chance to ask further, a huge dark shadow knocked over the giant log that the middle-aged female was on. The middle-aged female stumbled for a moment. He quickly released the vine in his hand, and grasped the one tied around his waist, while one of his claws sank deep into the log that had been beneath his feet just moments ago. Just as the dark shadow prepared to knock him over again, the middle-aged female agilely backflipped to avoid the attack, then skilfully leaped onto the back of the dark shadow, firmly latching on to its back with his claws, drawing streaks of blood. However, the surrounding turbulent water swiftly dispersed the blood.
Reacting to the pain, the whale shark writhed and dove into the water, trying to shake off the creature clinging to its body.
As the whale shark started to swim away, the strong vines tied to the beastman’s waist remained fastened to the massive log, while the whale shark’s movement pulled the log into the water, leaving a visible trail where the log forcefully ripped through the clear lake water, resembling a torn fissure.
Drifting on the outskirts of the whale shark’s movements were numerous large tree trunks, each entwined together with vines, creating a waterway-like passage.
With the whale shark trying to flee towards the center of the Salt-Water Lake, the previously stationary beastmen on the beach swiftly sprang into action. Paired together in twos, with waists entwined with long vines, they agilely hopped along the giant logs in the water towards the outermost edges. Grabbing the tree trunks already present in the water, they forcefully plunged them into the water, obstructing the whale shark’s path of retreat.
At the moment, the waters of the Salt-Water Lake had started to slowly recede, and Chen Qi could gradually make out the bright white spots on the back of the whale shark, adorning its dark skin and standing out conspicuously.

After being dragged underwater for what seemed like an eternity, the middle-aged female emerged gasping for breath. He then swiftly leaped from behind the whale shark onto its neck, firmly clasping its back with his claws, preventing it from throwing him off.
The violent currents crashed against the middle-aged female, making him grit his teeth in pain. He shouted loudly, and two females jumped onto the back of the whale shark, one in front and one behind, firmly anchoring its erratic movements. Seizing this moment, the middle-aged female climbed onto the underside of the whale shark, and easily sliced through its soft belly with his sharp claws.
Another female quickly coiled some vines around the whale shark’s tail before swiftly retreating to avoid getting struck by the thrashing tail.
The water around them was stained a deep red as the mixture of blood and internal organs tainted the surroundings. The females stood silently on the giant logs, patiently waiting for the whale shark to cease its struggles.
The middle-aged female rinsed the dirt off his face with water. He seemed to feel the eyes directed towards him. He lifted his head to look over towards the people on the rocks and gave them a wide grin.
“It’s over. Let’s go over.”
Axu led the group down to the beach, where the beastmen had already started using the vines to pull the motionless whale shark onto the shore.
“Dad.” Ashu immediately approached the middle-aged female and affectionately wrapped his arms around him.
The middle-aged female gently pinched Ashu’s cheek. “It seems like you’re just now all grown up since I haven’t seen you for so long.”
“I’ve already grown up a long time ago.” Ashu objected, swatting away the middle-aged female’s hand in annoyance.
The middle-aged female laughed heartily and looked over towards the unfamiliar faces. “Are you all from the Rock-Mountain Tribe?”
Ahxu nodded. “We have renamed our tribe to Qi Ze City. From now on, the Rock-Mountain Tribe would only refer to those who had merged with the Lion-Wolf Tribe.”
The middle-aged female nodded in understanding, “I am Achu, chief of the Salt-Water Tribe.”
Ahxu introduced the rest of his tribespeople. Seeing Chen Qi’s continuous gaze towards the nearby whale shark, Achu asked, “Is this your first time seeing a whale shark? Would you like to have a closer look?”
“Is that okay?”
“Of course.” Achu smiled and led the way for the few of them.
From a distance, it was difficult to perceive how big the whale shark was, but as they got closer, they realized that it was actually about six to seven meters long.
“This whale shark is still young. Fully grown whale sharks can be more than twice this size.” Ashu proudly explained to the group of them.
Chen Qi’s brows furrowed slightly. It was his first time seeing a whale shark up close, but he had seen this creature on the television before. The whale shark’s appearance here was almost identical to his previous impressions.
In the previous world, whale sharks had long been listed as protected species. They were filter-feeding creatures and posed no threat to humans. After the animals on the plains had finished migrating away, Chen Qi had not encountered any other creatures resembling those from his previous world. Now, seeing the familiar protected species lying peacefully on the beach, truth be told, Chen Qi’s emotions at this moment were somewhat complicated.

Of course, he did not entertain the melodramatic thought that creatures considered protected species in his own world could not be seen as food over here.
Observing the beast people efficiently process the enormous whale shark and then pulling the massive tree trunks back to the shore, Chen Qi realized that they were doing so to prevent them from being swept away to the center of the lake by the swiftly receding water.
The beastmen who took part in the hunting received their share of the food, and the group soon returned to Axu’s cave. On the way, Axu had already briefly explained the recent events that had transpired to Achu. Upon reaching the cave, Achu looked on in amazement as Axu unpacked items from his backpack, many of which he had never seen before. A wide smile of astonishment adorned Achu’s face as he eagerly asked Axu to demonstrate the uses of each item one by one.
With only a few items at hand, Axu was only able to demonstrate the wooden bow and bamboo sieve. However, considering the late hour, Axu stopped after some simple demonstrations.
“Dad, Chen Qi also taught us how to swim, just like those whale sharks, without needing to be bound with vines or sinking into the water.”
Achu was shocked by this news. Although their hunts appeared like they were done with ease, once the prey broke the vines and they fell into the water, if they could not rescue the person in time, the only fate awaiting them was drowning. Every year, their tribe had to bury their people underwater due to hunting accidents. If they could be like fish in the water, how many casualties could be reduced?
Achu looked at Chen Qi steadily. In the previous gathering, he had seen Chen Qi teach them how to drill into wood to start a fire. He couldn’t believe that after not seeing him for a whole winter, this young male had come up with so many new things, especially the idea of swimming. If the people in their tribe could swim…
Chen Qi started to feel a bit uneasy under Achu’s increasingly intense gaze. Achu looked very young, appearing more like Axu’s brother than father. His pair of blue eyes were a shade darker in color than Axu’s, and when he stared at someone, it gave the impression that any secrets hidden deep within one’s heart could be seen through by him.
Achu leaned forward slightly, his large hands gripping Chen Qi’s shoulders. With a serious expression on his face, he asked, “Do you need a mate? I have two sons.”
Axu rolled his eyes and pulled at Achu’s hide garment, creating some distance between them. “Chen Qi already has a mate.” If he didn’t already have a mate, he would certainly have been tempted to bring back this male who seemed to understand everything. What a pity!
“Yi? Who?” Achu looked at Chen Qi with a face full of shock, feeling deeply affected.
Chen Qi chuckled as he looked at Achu’s startled expression and pointed at Aze, who was sitting beside him wearing an already darkened expression, “Him, my mate, Aze.”
Achu glanced at Aze, then turned back with a pained and regretful expression, gently patting the head of his eldest son. “Don’t worry, Dad will find you a male who knows even more next time.”
Axu swatted away the hand that was messing with his head, expressing his disdain, and moved further away, keeping some distance.
For dinner, it was Ahxu who, with the help of Ashu, took charge of cooking. Although Ashu had learned cooking from Chen Qi for a few days and had been actively helping Aze along their travels, it was evident that not every female was omnipotent. Ashu clearly lacked a natural talent for cooking and belonged to the type who could cook without making it taste bad. However, for the beast people who had never eaten anything other than roasted or boiled meat, the meals could already be considered a delicacy.
Achu was so moved by the meal that he almost pulled apart the sleeves of the few beastmen from Qi Ze City to urge them to stay in the Salt-Water Tribe for good.

miiyachan, so what if you take longer between each update? Take it slow, just like the plot in this novel. No need to hurry, we have enough time.
Speaking of, I remember you commenting in one of the past few chapters that we reached the halfway point of the novel? That’s nice, since it means more chapters to read in the future! (Yes, I don’t want the story to end!)
