Chapter 47
The morning of the first day of winter was no different from the last Moonless Day; There was no transition between night and day and it turned from darkness to dawn in an instant.
Night on a Moonless Day was dark and nothing could be seen at all. Chen Qi lost interest and went back to his room in a daze to sleep after midnight. There was no fire keng in the room and he was awakened by the cold the next morning even though he had on two layers of fur blankets. Chen Qi shivered and got up. Aze was already cooking some rice paste.
Chen Qi went to the storage room and retrieved a short string of cured meat. He diced the cured meat and added them into the rice paste to make a meat porridge. The little wolf cub excitedly circled Aze all morning. Aze opened and poured half a milk fruit for its breakfast. Yesterday’s harvest included a whole backpack full of milk fruits, which was enough to feed the little wolf cub for a long time.
Chen Qi’s lips curled upwards as he opened two milk fruits and poured them into a pottery bowl to warm them up before taking some hot water from the nearby pottery jar to wash up. When Chen Qi came back out, the little wolf cub had already finished its breakfast and was sprawled out in front of the pottery bowl filled with milk fruit, its big eyes staring at the steaming liquid inside.
“Chen Qi, the little cub has already eaten. Feeding him some more will upset its stomach.” Aze thought that Chen Qi had prepared the milk fruit in the pottery bowl for the little wolf cub, so he reminded him.
“Who said it was for this little brat?” Chen Qi reached out his hand and flicked the little wolf cub in the head. The little wolf cub rolled twice on the ground, away from the pottery bowl.
Chen Qi picked up the pottery bowl, and the fragrance of milk rushed at him. He took a sip. The smooth and light tasting milk tasted much better than the boxed milk he used to drink. Chen Qi handed the bowl to Aze. “You should try it. The milk fruit tastes quite good.”
Aze was a little surprised. It was his first time seeing a beastman that was of age drinking a cub’s milk fruit. However, he didn’t refuse Chen Qi’s kindness and took a sip from the pottery bowl. The taste was sweet, and Aze couldn’t say if he liked the milky fragrance, but he didn’t hate it either. The little wolf pup was not happy anymore. It thought Chen Qi was preparing food for itself, but he unexpectedly drank it for himself. Crying out with two awoo’s, it jumped into Aze’s arms, its pair of eyes filled with tears, looking very pitiful.
Aze glanced at the pottery bowl in his hand, then at the little wolf cub in his arms. He was a little tangled over whether to feed the little wolf cub a little bit more. Chen Qi took back the pottery bowl and very quickly drank up the rest of the milk fruit. He licked his lips with satisfaction and cheekily grinned at the little wolf cub. The little wolf pup stared at Chen Qi with a shocked expression, then it wriggled its tiny butt out of Aze’s arms and hopped off, running back to his little nest with a few frustrated snorts. He dove into the hide blanket and ignored the two men.
Aze looked at Chen Qi, who was robbing the little cub with amusement, and handed the cooked meat porridge to him. After breakfast, Chen Qi felt that his whole person was warm from the inside out. Chen Qi planned to go outside to have a look at the scene of the first day of winter.
As soon as the thick hide door curtain was lifted, a blast of cold wind poured into the room and the sight that greeted Chen Qi’s eyes was the same as that first day he’d come into this world.
The withered, yellowed weeds were almost all bent over by the foot of snow. Apart from the fig tree, which remained as green as ever, all the other plants on the plains seemed to have withered overnight. The leaves of the nearby acacia tree had fallen away, and only white snow covered the branches. Chen Qi couldn’t imagine how much snow must have fallen last night.

Aze came out of the house and draped the piece of hide in his hand over Chen Qi’s shoulders. “You haven’t yet adapted to the sudden cold temperature of winter’s arrival. Wear more layers and don’t catch a cold.” After speaking, Aze picked up a wood board and planned to clear the snow outside the house.
Aze had transformed himself into a partial beast form since last night. His fur was white, very similar to the fur of the giant wolf-god. It was just this year that he did not fully transform into his full beast form like previous years, and only the areas under his neck were covered with the thick fur. He was also still wearing the hide clothing he usually wore. Without looking carefully, it would not be noticeable that he was in a partial beast form.
Morning light sprinkled on Aze, softening the hard lines on his face. Aze had always been more taciturn in front of others. However, he could always utter a lot of words naturally in front of Chen Qi and would also often laugh. Despite having known him for so long, this was the first time that Chen Qi seriously observed Aze.
Aze’s facial features were actually very refined. He was half a head taller than Chen Qi and had a slender body. Even the crudely made hide clothing had him giving off a fashion statement that screamed “wild”. If he’d lived in Chen Qi’s world, it would have been a waste of his good figure if Aze did not become a celebrity.
Feeling Chen Qi’s gaze, Aze, who had been busying about, raised his head, his beautiful, crimson lips slightly curled up into a smile and asked, “What is it?”
Chen Qi was stunned by this good-looking smile. Perhaps it was because the scene of snow was too dazzling, or that Aze’s smile had an illusory charming effect at this moment but Chen Qi blurted out, “Aze, do you want to be with me?”
As soon as he let that out, Chen Qi was frightened by his own self, but when he returned to his senses, he found that he did not regret it. Chen Qi was not a straight man. He had known long ago that he liked men, but was too busy, first with studying then with working, and there had not been others like him around him until now.
Aze obviously didn’t understand Chen Qi’s slightly ambiguous words, “What do you mean? Aren’t we already living together?”
Chen Qi restrained his expression, then clenching onto the hide clothes he was wearing, he walked up to Aze and stared into the other’s beautiful eyes. He replied earnestly, “What I mean is, do you want to try having me as your mate?” Chen Qi had lived for nearly 30 years and this was his first time confessing to someone. He hadn’t felt much when he first said it, but now that he’d clearly stated his intentions, his whole person became nervous and he stared directly at Aze, afraid to see even the slightest hint of refusal on the other’s expression.
“Don’t use your pregnancy pattern as a reason to reject me. I never thought that my partner would be able to give birth to a child for me.” Chen Qi looked at Aze’s uneasy expression and naturally knew what the other was most worried about. He softly added, “You should think about it carefully for now. You don’t have to give me an answer right away, but don’t take too long.”
“En.” Aze responded inexplicably, lowered his head to avoid Chen Qi’s gaze, and continued wielding the wood board in his hand. The snow on the ground was pushed aside with each swing revealing the maroon ground underneath.

Chen Qi looked on with slight amusement at Aze’s flustered expression. He’d only known the other for about one month, which couldn’t be considered very long. Immediately saying it was love was impossible, but Chen Qi was certain that he liked the other man. In this world, there was probably no one who’d treat him better than Aze. Chen Qi, who had never been in love before, did not expect that he would be so decisive in this sort of matter. Maybe he was influenced by the first snow of winter.
Aze’s heart was not nearly as calm as he appeared on the surface, and it would not even be an exaggeration to describe it as turbulent. He thought that he could only silently accompany Chen Qi until Chen Qi found a mate of his own. He never thought that Chen Qi would ask him to be his mate.
Aze’s chaotic thoughts made him unable to understand his own mood. He only felt that his head was empty and kept asking himself silently, over and over again, was he really qualified to be with Chen Qi? Was Chen Qi truly happy being with him? Could he really accept him without children? Would Chen Qi really not get hurt being with him? Aze remembered his dad, his first tribe which had been destroyed, his father, his second dad, and his second tribe that was also destroyed. Aze had thought more than once that if he had not left Ka Luo and moved to live outside of the tribe, would Ka Luo have grown up as safely as he did?
Feeling the sadness overflowing from Aze, Chen Qi was startled. He grabbed hold of Aze’s cold hand and apologized in a panic, “Aze, I’m sorry. Did I trouble you? If you don’t want to be my mate, let’s just go back to our previous relationship. You can treat it like I hadn’t said anything and we can continue to be friends like before.”
Aze shook his head and his eyes reddened.
“Can’t even be friends anymore?” Chen Qi was now annoyed at himself for his sudden confession. He didn’t want to be separated from Aze because his confession was rejected. Although his affection for Aze was not yet to the extent of love, he had already begun to be greedy for the other’s gentleness.
“I am a man abandoned by the beast god.” Aze whispered.

“I know.” The absence of the pregnancy pattern symbolized the abandonment of the beast god. Aze had mentioned this to him more than once.
“I can’t bear children.”
“En. What I like is you, not because you can or cannot have children.” Chen Qi explained patiently.
Aze’s eyebrows twitched. “Chen Qi, why do you want me to be your mate?”
Chen Qi looked at him with amusement. Aze’s hair was very soft. Chen Qi needed to raise his hand to pat the other’s head. Although it was not very convenient, Chen Qi liked this move very much. “Do I need a reason to like you? Then, Aze, do you like me?”
Do I like Chen Qi? Aze could get a definite answer without even thinking about it. He’d liked this male from the first time he’d met him. Even when he knew that he didn’t have a pregnancy pattern, the look in his eyes had not changed at all.
Seeing Aze slightly nod, Chen Qi looked deeply into his eyes and earnestly asked again, “Aze, do you want to try having me as your mate?”
Aze looked back at him. Chen Qi’s expression was the most solemn he’d ever seen. The hands holding him were tense and gripped tightly. He may not have been aware how much strength he was using at the moment, but it was almost enough to leave red marks on Aze’s hands.
Aze’s lips and jaw moved a few times and it took him a long time before he softly uttered a word, “Okay.”
Chen Qi felt that he had lived these many years and for the first time, he realized that the pronunciation of the word “okay” was so beautiful.

Thanks for the chapter! 🎊 🎉 That was unexpected, lol. I really thought we were going to get the pining for the naive guy plot, instead, we got quite a decisive declaration, lol. “He’s so pretty & wonderful, I want to be with him” he thought & ran with it! 😂
It’s refreshing. I still enjoy having to remind myself who the gong is 🙂
