The man on the other side hummed before answering, \u201cIt was only a slight problem, it\u2019s fine now.\u201d Min Chen could hear running water, so he asked, \u201cWhat are you doing?\u201d<\/p>

Qi Mu eyed his reflection in the window as he washed his vegetables one-handedly. His face was calm, and his voice relaxed, \u201cWashing ingredients for cooking. Oh, there\u2019s no time difference between Paris and Berlin. Have you eaten yet?\u201d<\/p>

Min Chen didn\u2019t reply right away. After a beat of silence, he said, \u201cWell, I have. What are you having tonight?\u201d<\/p>

Qi Mu couldn\u2019t help laughing. \u201cI\u2019m having\u2026\u201d<\/p>

This simple, ordinary chat eased Qi Mu\u2019s depression and shifted his forced smile into something much more natural.<\/p>

When the conversation turned to Akkad and the chocolates, Qi Mu had already burst out laughing a few times. His mood warmed by the minute and his delicate face was filled with smiles.<\/p>

Min Chen said he was going to make Daniel go to Turin to buy chocolate for the old man, and Qi Mu couldn\u2019t restrain his giggles. \u201cAre you\u2026 going to bribe my professor?\u201d<\/p>

The man\u2019s answer was matter-of-fact: \u201cOf course.\u201d<\/p>

\u201cWell\u2026 what are you going to bribe him for? You can\u2019t be\u2026 you\u2019re not trying to learn the violin again, are you?!\u201d Recalling his mentor\u2019s words, \u201cAuston\u2019s violin is god-awful,\u201d<\/em> Qi Mu immediately shook his head and said, \u201cMin Chen, I think you\u2019re already superb with the piano, so don\u2019t grieve yourself over the violin.\u201d<\/p>

Min Chen: \u201c\u2026\u201d<\/p>

Under Qi Mu\u2019s persuasion, Min Chen revealed some anecdotes from his childhood studies of the violin.<\/p>

Qi Mu placed his salad and egg fried rice<\/a> on the table and lifted his chopsticks. He had yet to take even a single bite when Min Chen sighed. \u201cSo\u2026 now that you\u2019ve heard my jokes, do you feel better?\u201d<\/p>

His chopsticks froze. Smiling weakly, Qi Mu asked, \u201cHow did you know?\u201d<\/p>

\u201cWhen you answered, your voice sounded\u2026 sad.\u201d The man\u2019s voice was very much like the beast piano, clear and pleasant. \u201cQi Mu, I\u2019m sorry I can\u2019t be with you right now. If something happened that made you unhappy\u2026 Please, don\u2019t hide it from me?\u201d<\/p>

Though that voice was transmitted over cold radio waves from thousands of miles away, it warmed his heart. He could imagine the man\u2019s face, still cold and indifferent, but with eyes overflowing with indulgence and affection.<\/p>

\u201cActually\u2026 it wasn\u2019t anything very important\u2026\u201d<\/p>

Qi Mu explained the situation. Calmly, he relayed that he trusted a man very much but never expected him to go behind his back. His explanation wasn\u2019t too vague, and while someone might think he was misaligning the facts, he didn\u2019t hide anything.<\/p>

When he finished, he omitted his death and replaced it with, \u201cI lost something very important.\u201d Still, leaving it at that, he was worried Min Chen might be angry.<\/p>

After a long while, Min Chen said, \u201cSo\u2026 That someone you never thought would stab you in the back and seemed kind was actually conspiring with someone else to take something precious from you?\u201d<\/p>

Qi Mu nodded. \u201cYes, something very, very precious.\u201d<\/p>

Everyone knew how big the opportunity to perform in the Golden Stage was to a young violinist.<\/p>

Not to mention\u2026 how precious life was to someone who obviously only had one!<\/p>

Qi Mu relaxed. It wasn\u2019t that flamboyant and crude Jacques who had him killed. Qi Mu also wanted to believe in him, even though the black musician never concealed the fact he looked down on him.<\/p>

Getting such a blatant wake-up call from Min Chen, the weight in his heart disappeared.<\/p>

They chatted for a while after that, until Qi Mu was ready to eat and about to end the call. But then, Min Chen whispered, \u201cQi Mu\u2026 is there anything else you want to tell me?\u201d<\/p>

Qi Mu pondered for a moment. Shaking his head, he replied, \u201cNo, I can\u2019t think of anything else? I\u2019ll call if I do. Remember to put your phone on mute, so I don\u2019t disturb the rehearsal.\u201d<\/p>

On the other end of the phone, Min Chen replied with a hum. Qi Mu hung up with confusion written across his face. He wondered why the man asked\u2026 What else could he want to tell him?<\/p>

He still couldn\u2019t think of anything after pondering it for quite a while. Chuckling, he started his dinner.<\/p>

In Berlin, thousands of miles away, a man wore a gloomy expression.<\/p>

Daniel came over and scratched at his hair. \u201cHey, Min, break\u2019s over. Let\u2019s continue with afternoon rehearsal.\u201d Daniel, who didn\u2019t know he stood before a loaded gun, continued, \u201cDid you just call Little Angel? Oh, it\u2019s been a while since I last saw him, I really miss that guy! What\u2019s the Chinese saying again\u2026\u201d<\/p>

\u201cUm, let me see\u2026 Ah, one day is like countless autumns!\u201d<\/p>

Though he said it, even ten Daniels wouldn\u2019t dare fight him. When they returned to the rehearsal hall side by side, even Daniel, as dense as he was, could feel something off about Min Chen.<\/p>

He frowned. \u201cMin, we\u2019ve known each other for a long time. Yet, I rarely see you in this bad of a mood\u2026 What happened? Does it have something to do with Angel?\u201d<\/p>

Over their decade of friendship, Daniel had a good grasp on Min Chen. Put simply\u2014\u2014<\/p>

He knew him so well, he even knew he was afraid of bugs, okay!<\/p>

So, he definitely noticed the anger Min Chen tried to suppress, so pungent it threatened to freeze the air.<\/p>

Daniel hadn\u2019t seen Min Chen this anger in a very long time. The last time was over a trumpeter trying to be smart. They tried playing petty tricks to get ahold of the track they were using to select the next deputy chief in advance. It made Min Chen furious, and the trumpeter\u2019s end was\u2014\u2014<\/p>

To be driven out of Bai Ai.<\/p>

Standing before the mahogany door, Min Chen lowered his head, and his hair covered his eyes. It took a while to suppress everything, but finally, he said, \u201cSomeone did something bad to him.\u201d<\/p>

For a split second, Daniel was stunned, then he rolled up his sleeves. \u201cWhat?! Someone bullied him?! They must not want to live anymore! Don\u2019t worry, Min. You won\u2019t even have to do anything. We, Bai Ai, will end this with one punch.\u201d<\/p>

Qi Mu was Bai Ai\u2019s angel. Bullying him? Daniel knew they had to have a death wish!<\/p>

To his surprise, the man who ought to be the most furious of them all shook his head. Min Chen stared at the ground and murmured, \u201cIt\u2019s too late\u2026\u201d<\/p>

Such simple words shocked Daniel. Though he didn\u2019t know what happened, he could tell from Min Chen\u2019s appearance, things weren\u2019t simple.<\/p>

Because\u2026 Daniel had never seen Min Chen blame himself or be so vulnerable.<\/p>

He was surprised that this man, who had always remained calm and composed in all his schemes, who could even hide his murderous intent, could show such remorse. He stared at Min Chen. He felt so lost until he remembered\u2026<\/p>

Min Chen was just an ordinary human.<\/p>

Their years of friendship made Daniel sad for him. Patting Min Chen\u2019s shoulder, he sighed, \u201cDon\u2019t worry, Min. It\u2019s not too late yet. Isn\u2019t Angel doing great right now?\u201d<\/p>

He continued to encourage him after a pause. \u201cI don\u2019t know who bullied Angel\u2026 but now that he\u2019s doing so well, you can certainly protect him. Besides, I don\u2019t think anyone would dare try such a thing now. How can they bully him when he has us, Bai Ai\u2019s support?!\u201d<\/p>

Min Chen replied to Daniel with a hum. When he opened the door, he was once again the usual Bai Ai\u2019s cold conductor with a poisonous tongue.<\/p>

But, as he looked at the man\u2019s sturdy figure, Daniel shook his head and whispered, \u201cLooks like\u2026 someone\u2019s going to be very unlucky.\u201d<\/p>

The night sky in Paris was the same as in Berlin, and a hazy crescent moon hung overhead.<\/p>

Qi Mu finished doing the dishes and intended to pack things and prepare his score for his work with the college orchestra. He hadn\u2019t practiced with one for quite a while.<\/p>

In Bai Ai, Min Chen had extra patience that night. Though all the members and staff worked overtime, they were surprised to find\u2014\u2014<\/p>

Wasn\u2019t the conductor a lot less poisonous today?!<\/p>

Well, it had to be because he was spending so much time with Angel!!!<\/p>

The moonlight shone on Qi Mu as he wiped his table. Gazing up at the moon outside his window, Qi Mu decided to forget all those disgusting people. He took a comfortable bath then sank into sweet dreams.<\/p>

Light dispelled darkness, just like justice would always triumph over evil.<\/p>
