Qi Mu pushed open the mahogany door, and a beautiful melody spilled out from inside.<\/p>

Naturally, rehearsal halls weren\u2019t designed like concert halls. Many were styled like classrooms and built with sound insulation. Often, there were only seats for the orchestra and none for an audience.<\/p>

However, Bai Ai\u2019s was obviously an exception.<\/p>

At a glance, Qi Mu gauged about 300 seats and in front, a 50 cm platform stage. The red curtain was drawn to both sides, and nearly a hundred people were gathered under the lights.<\/p>

Qi Mu listened for a few lines then turned to Min Chen, \u201cThey\u2019re rehearsing Tchaikovsky\u2019s \u300aSymphony No. 6 in B minor<\/a>\u300b?\u201d<\/p>

Min Chen gently closed the door behind them. The entrance was so quiet, no one on stage noticed their arrival. Only Daniel, who sat in the audience, saw and turned to stare in surprise.<\/p>

\u201cYes, Tchaikovsky\u2019s temporarily set as our autumn tour\u2019s theme. They\u2019re rehearsing the first piece.\u201d Min Chen walked toward the stage, whispering to Qi Mu, \u201cWe\u2019ve performed Symphony No. 6 before, so they\u2019re familiar with it.\u201d<\/p>

Qi Mu nodded but didn\u2019t speak.<\/p>

The Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra was keen on Bauhaus\u2019 minimalistic style. This hall wasn\u2019t as brilliant as many of the concert halls in Vienna and was decorated mainly in black and white. It channeled the black and white keys of the piano to express the fluidity of music in various smooth, curved lines.<\/p>

Even the seats were minimalistic. Qi Mu saw Danial, but to his surprise, Min Chen took him two rows away from the smiling, waving agent.<\/p>

Daniel: \u201c…\u201d<\/p>

Qi Mu: \u201c…\u201d<\/p>

Aware of the confusion, Min Chen pulled down a chair and sat, whispering, \u201cThis seat has the best audiovisuals. They\u2019re only rehearsing now, and Christole is leading them, but it\u2019s best to sit and listen here.\u201d<\/p>

Qi Mu: \u201c…Really?\u201d<\/p>

Min Chen nodded calmly: \u201cReally.\u201d<\/p>

Qi Mu frowned: \u201cThen why did Daniel sit there?\u201d …Shouldn\u2019t he be sitting over here?<\/em><\/p>

Min Chen casually glanced at Daniel and answered, \u201cHe has bad judgment and chose the wrong seat.\u201d<\/p>

Qi Mu: \u201c…\u201d<\/p>

Daniel: \u201c…\u201d<\/p>

Oi, I heard that!<\/em><\/p>

On stage, Christole led the orchestra in their rehearsal of the second movement. As concertmaster, he was responsible for leading Bai Ai in their conductor\u2019s absence. Obviously, he had become excellent at this.<\/p>

As Qi Mu listened, he couldn\u2019t stop himself from closing his eyes and immersing himself in the melancholy.<\/p>

The second movement of Tchaikovsky\u2019s \u300aSymphony No. 6\u300b was a gentle adagio and had a soothing rhythm. It wasn\u2019t anywhere as pleasant, or as comfortable, as \u300aSerenade<\/a>\u300b. In fact, it was rather sad and depressing.<\/p>

Qi Mu\u2019s eyebrows furrowed as he listened to the moving melody. He noticed it was a little below Bai Ai\u2019s usual level of performance, but still at an orchestral peak.<\/p>

This clearly marked Bai Ai\u2019s excellence. Just a few days of rehearsal under their concertmaster, who wasn\u2019t even a professional conductor, and they could play with first-class quality.<\/p>

Of course, near the end of the movement, Qi Mu heard the timpani miss a beat and someone in the cello group made a mistake. These errors were within the range of tolerance, though, and were temporarily ignored.<\/p>

As the last note lingered in the air, Qi Mu applauded, offering his respect and encouragement to the musicians.<\/p>

Christole took the bow from his strings and looked down from the stage at the sudden applause. When he saw the black-haired young man, the name \u201cLittle Angel\u201d flashed through his mind, but before he could act, the other Bai Ai members were jumping around like they were in a frying pan.<\/p>

\u201cOh my God! Little Angel?!\u201d<\/p>

\u201cOh God, when did he get here? Why didn\u2019t I notice?!\u201d<\/p>

\u201cIt was only yesterday when I said to McCann Angel hadn\u2019t called the conductor for a long time. Why did he suddenly come here?!\u201d<\/p>

\u2026\u2026<\/p>

Christole shook his head helplessly, thinking: Of course, you won\u2019t think of how your Little Angel suddenly got here\u2026 Have you considered <\/em>who brought him?<\/em><\/p>

Sure enough, a moment later\u2014\u2014<\/p>

The rehearsal hall was designed to give the audience the best experience. The curved layout was specially constructed to improve sound distribution. This, coupled with his excellent hearing Qi Mu could hear the excited chatter and the complaints.<\/p>

He even wondered: Some speak German, some English, and is that French\u2026 How do these people communicate?<\/em><\/p>

Of course, he didn\u2019t know that when the Bai Ai members say their demonic conductor, they couldn\u2019t care less what language they spoke. They could first scold themselves in their native tongue. Speaking another language just wasn\u2019t enough. They had to bring in dialects and accents too, the more remote, the better.<\/p>

There was once a new member who was scolded until he\u2019d had enough. He\u2019d complained in Albanian: \u201cI don\u2019t want to come to Bai Ai in my next life.\u201d Min Chen had put down his baton and said to him, in Albanian, with an utterly blank expression: \u201cThen you can leave now.\u201d<\/p>

As a conductor, Min Chen was undoubtedly talented. The mistakes he pointed out and the areas that needed improving were correct and also useful. Bai Ai admired him for that. But as a peer, or as the younger generation…<\/p>

Their conductor was cruel and had a poisonous tongue, ah!!!<\/p>

\u2014\u2014Was their thoughts.<\/p>

Qi Mu saw their every exaggerated expression under the bright spotlight. Unsure how to feel, he turned to the man beside him and said, \u201cThey seem\u2026 very afraid of you?\u201d<\/p>

Min Chen just raised an eyebrow. \u201cYou misheard.\u201d<\/p>

Qi Mu, of course, believed his ears over this man who didn\u2019t even have the right to speak. \u201cThey\u2019re really scared of you.\u201d<\/p>

Min Chen: \u201c…\u201d<\/p>

Seemingly wanting to prove he was indeed a \u201ckind\u201d person, Min Chen left the audience and strode to the stage.<\/p>

Bai Ai\u2019s members watched him approach in panicked stillness. When Min Chen stepped on stage and picked up his baton, some crumbled.<\/p>

The raid wasn\u2019t enough\u2026 You want to conduct too?!<\/em><\/p>

We don\u2019t want you, we want the gentle Christole!!!<\/em><\/p>

Off stage, Qi Mu raised his eyebrows. He looked at the man\u2019s tall figure with a smile. Of course, he knew what Min Chen wanted to do. It looked like\u2026<\/p>

The man wanted to display his \u201cgood temper\u201d by directing the rehearsal himself, right?<\/p>

Qi Mu just smiled and sat back to enjoy the show.<\/p>

Min Chen turned the score and looked at Christole. \u201cOnly the second movement?\u201d<\/p>

Christole smiled and nodded. \u201cYes, I wanted to rehearse the second movement this afternoon, so I only prepared this last night.\u201d<\/p>

The large a3 on the music stand had each of the instruments\u2019 notes in detail. This obviously wasn\u2019t Min Chen\u2019s score as it was marked with notes, especially the violin section.<\/p>

Min Chen skimmed it then closed it.<\/p>

Christole was talented, but he wasn\u2019t a conductor. The score didn\u2019t do much for Min Chen.<\/p>

Min Chen raised his baton and ordered a fat man from the third left of the cell group, \u201cKeith, tighten your G string. It\u2019s still in tune, but you\u2019ll do more work in the last five minutes.\u201d<\/p>

The fat cellist called \u201cKeith\u201d complied without a word. Min Chen looked at the orchestra as a whole then said plainly, \u201cThe second movement is basically alright. We\u2019ll move straight to the third movement now.\u201d<\/p>

Bai Ai\u2019s members: \u201c…\u201d<\/p>

\u201cI hope that by tomorrow, I can see you successfully play this simple movement.\u201d<\/p>

Bai Ai\u2019s members: \u201c……\u201d<\/p>

Are you shitting me? <\/em>\u3000\u3000<\/em><\/p>
