The interrogators didn\u2019t expect him to be so challenging to deal with. They looked at each other for a moment, then one threatened, \u201cIt\u2019s all there, what do you pretend for now? It seems you want to do this the hard way!\u201d<\/span><\/p>

The second man played the good cop: \u201cChild, I advise you not to refuse. You\u2019ll sign it anyway, whether now or later. The end will be the same, so why make it harder for yourself?\u201d<\/span><\/p>

Lin Jingzhe knew the interrogation was being recorded, so he dug his heels in and refused to budge. \u201cI didn\u2019t say anything you put in this confession. In a certain upscale club in Liyun Town, the municipal leader, Du Kang, was being hauled over the coals through the phone.<\/span><\/p>

Did the delegation complain about something? Just what mistake have I made?<\/span><\/em> He repeatedly pondered the day\u2019s proceedings but really couldn\u2019t find what he\u2019d done wrong. The reception he\u2019d arranged was of the highest standard possible in Liyun Town: the delegation members were settled in the finest quarters of the Party cadre\u2019s guest house, and the dinner was a banquet held in Liberation Hotel, the best in town. Even the alcohol he prepared was Maotai of the excellent vintage he was usually reluctant to part with.<\/span><\/p>

After dinner, he brought them to a club and invited the most beautiful girls to accompany them drinking. Despite clamoring they had important things to do which couldn\u2019t be delayed, none of the guests looked dissatisfied nor angry, at least as far as he could tell.<\/span><\/p>

He took the handkerchief his secretary handed him and wiped the sweat on his forehead. He hurried to ask, unconsciously hunching his back, \u201cIs there a problem with the reception? Have the delegation members found something offensive? Please tell me what\u2019s wrong, and I\u2019ll certainly fix it!\u201d<\/span><\/p>

{You still have the nerve to ask! Before the delegation arrived, I stressed again and again: you need to ensure their absolute safety!} The leader on the other end of the phone was clearly not mollified by his repentance\u2014on the contrary, his voice became loud to the point of breathlessness, {You, do you look down on me, treat my words as the wind in your ear?!}<\/span><\/p>

The telephone receiver slipped out of Du Kang\u2019s suddenly limp hand. The disastrous news left his mind blank.<\/span><\/p>

It was the first time the secretary had seen him like this. He immediately realized something must\u2019ve gone terribly wrong and asked in hurry, \u201cWhat happened, boss?\u201d<\/span><\/p>

The moment Du Kang\u2019s dull eyes fell on him, they regained a spark of hope.<\/span><\/p>

The secretary watched his boss\u2019 expression change from lifeless to panicked and from panicked to desperation, like colors in a kaleidoscope. Finally, it settled on irrepressible rage\u2014he almost thought he saw smoke coming out of his ears.<\/span><\/p>

Dozens of guns were pointing at the door, and solemn warnings kept flowing from the megaphone, \u201cThe people inside, listen\u2026\u201d<\/span><\/p>

Class 5\u2019s students had never encountered anything similar. Zhou Haitang peered through the crack in the door, and his face turned pale. He looked over his shoulder at Gao Sheng, \u201cWhat should we do?\u201d<\/span><\/p>

Then he was stopped by the bodyguards. The old man opened his eyes, and the look that flashed across his face made Gao Sheng unconsciously shrink.<\/span><\/p>

Elder Fang saw the cup of water and his expression softened a bit. He gestured to the bodyguards, indicating they needn\u2019t be so nervous, then received the cup and took a sip.<\/span><\/p>

\u201cThank you, young man.\u201d<\/span><\/p>

Liu\u2019s face brightened. He waved at his subordinates, rushing them: \u201cCome on, move it!\u201d<\/span><\/p>

As a group of people walked into the living room with large strides, he smiled wide and hurried to greet them, \u201cOh, it\u2019s the municipal leaders! I\u2019m truly sorry for this mess. Fortunately, the situation is already under control\u2014\u201d<\/span><\/p>

He intended to boast about his achievements but sadly didn\u2019t succeed.<\/span><\/p>

Du Kang, who walked in the front, approached and slapped his face hard.<\/span><\/p>
